Also dishonest. Given the tatty condition of the engine bay, there is no way that paint is original. Note the sagging driver's door, wrong steering wheel, engine air pump missing, coolant header tank, etc, etc. And "period correct" tyres would be Goodyear Eagles. Worst of all - no shields!
I would think if you were going to advertise a car at that level, you'd at least have the headlights operational and fit the correct steering wheel. #29757 I'm always amazed how few 308 GTS are advertised. Let alone driven. The sales figures here were significant yet the only one I have seen on the street in the last 10 years would be JAs.

close to mine: 29041, and mine is the only one seen on the roads here on a regular basis... I don’t have the latest club register, but last time I looked, there were only about 13 individual VINs listed (lots more names, obviously a few cars got passed around a lot). From research I did a long time ago, there were only about 3900 carbed GTS built (please correct me if I’m wrong Carl). When I bought mine in 2002 I had just missed one before I found mine and I watched the market for some time after and there wasn’t another for sale (that I’m aware of ) for something like 2 years after that... I guess a lot got sold overseas in the 80s...
Well they must all be hiding in sheds somewhere... I’m guessing the club membership jumped as the cars became eligible for Club registration in the past 10 years, but we don’t actually see the cars being used. Looking forward to a run in my old girl next Sunday with Qld FCA Whomos!
The lowest number I've found, going back to the yellow one pre '07, was in the '09 register @ 25ish. There are some,in all the registers, that don't have vins and I didn't count those.
Question for Carl or anyone for that matter: Around 1988 (?) Sale of Ferrari 288 gto in Melbourne ? ? ? Purchased by Japanese Chef - Terry Tamanaha of 'Kan Pai' Restaurant South Yarra 310K Did not manage to hold the car very long Familial connection Photos pending (offshore) will take forever Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Simon , as a young fella I was taken for a very wild ride in that car by Larry , I lived up the road from Chellingworths with mum and dad and hung around the servo a lot, when Larry bought the place and that red beast appeared I was in love instantly, one day he came out as I was drooling over the car and asked me to go home and ask my parents if it was okay for him to take me for a ride in the Ferrari.. it was a moment I will never forget
Hi Andrew,Yep the first run in a FEV12OHOS is always one that stays with you. I won't bore everyone here with my story again. Suffice to say that it was about 10 years after I bought my first. It actually appears on here now on page 323 of the Whom will win the US election thread rego S16424. .......and g'day to another FNQer!
FYI The club register book only includes cars owned by current club members or cars that were formerly owned by members. I expect to have the next edition out shortly.
I consider the Testarossa/512TR to be fairly rare cars seen on the road,, Yet I saw one driving down the Eastern Distributor, Kensington on Friday afternoon and another two yesterday morning,,One in Five dock, The other parked in Haberfield and all three were different cars..
Just catching up on what’s been happening over the last few months Steve…Congrats on the Sale of the 355..Must have been tough to see it drive away…Not a bad time to be cashed up going into next year..BTW who was the wanker that said UK imports would never sell?..Bet the red carpets sealed the deal…
Kanpai brings back a few memories! First went there in the 1980s, it's still operating in Chapel Street. The only 288 GTO that I knew of back then was the one GT brought in when new. It was the only one here until the Fox car arrived. I have the chassis number somewhere, I'll dig it up. I was not not aware that Terry owned that car. That was a shed load of money in real terms back then. Must have rolled a lot of sushi!
Thanks for the reply Carl: The plot thickens The price quoted will be right; insurance premium was 5.5K The model designation could be wrong; but there are photos which I will attempt to procure in scanned form Yes Terry rolled sushi, sea urchins & the ATO ( Amongst many other things ) At last contact (around 2015) was running a Restaurant in the diplomatic enclave in Karachi Prior to the F-car he had a 930 which he crashed the sh*t out of
My informant has back pedaled; we only have photos of the Porsche (red) Seems unlikely to have been a gto ( but you never know ) The price is right ! I remain curious; what f-car cost 310K around 1988 ? Whatever it was; apparently could be heard in the next suburb around that part of town I shall resume some casual interrogation
Would love to see some images from those days. I had a look for the 288 # but I couldn't find it. Geoff Thornton was the first owner. From memory Terry had excellent taste in wait staff too! That's hilarious where he ended up.
In 1988, after Enzo died, about the only used sub $310,000 Ferrari was a 308 or a Mondial. Does anyone recall the red 512 BBi that Henley's South Yarra sold for $600,000 about that time? People have short memories, we have a long way to go to get back to the values of the late 1980s in real terms. Anyway, love to see some pics, they were fun times back then.
Carl: thanks for your efforts; as usual you are all over it like a rash ! I was misinformed in the 1st instance; a young relative saying 'Miami Vice - 288 gto' @ 310K - that's not 308 money Stirring up the mud here; a more reliable witness much closer to the source recalls a Black car 4 Doors with Cream Leather interior At this point best to let sleeping dogs lie I was a bit quick out of the stalls when I heard those magic words 'Gran Turismo Omologato'
