    Hey Guys,

After a year of waiting, I finally took delivery of my new 2022 F8 Tributo. During the wait...I was told that Ferrari was canceling orders of the F8s which had fewer options (due to Covid and production shortage supposedly). I was also told Ferrari had a surplus of carbon wheels since many were set to go to Russia but didn't due to Ferrari pulling out of Russia and that it was highly recommended to pick them up as an option.

Long story short, I added on the carbon wheels and they were a whopping additional $34k + $2k for titanium bolts I believe.

They do look nice but I'm thinking about swapping them for stock F8 wheels. I'm wondering if this is going to turn off future buyers if I ever going to sell this F8. I don't plan on it anytime soon but down the road, the plaque in the trunk has the carbon wheels listed, and the same with my window sticker. Thoughts?

    Greg

You don’t say if you are planning on selling the carbon wheels or not. If you just swap them and keep them in storage then no problem. If you are planning on selling them then the configuration plate will not match as you point out. This is a bigger deal in some countries than others. What’s the actual motivation for the swap?

There are all types of buyers out there, but speaking for myself, I put a premium on cars that are equipped as they left the factory - I’d guess that most future buyers would as well.

You don’t say what your motivation for swapping is (durability?), but my suggestion is that if you really want to swap, store the originals and put them back on the car when selling.

Thanks guys. I guess for me, carbon wheels are overkill. I'm worried about damaging them and plus I never plan on tracking the car so the weight savings don't mean all that much. Having stock wheels gives me more peace of mind. Plus I wouldn't mind having a bit more cash in my pockets since many economies are still shaky and several countries around the world may be heading into recession next year.

However, I don't want to make the mistake of trading them for stock wheels (+ cash) now and then later regretting it dearly. That's why I'm asking. Most likely nothing is going to happen, the car is going to sit for winter until next year. But I thought I'd ask to get everyone's opinion.

Congrats on getting the F8, that's out of my budget. I've always thought of carbon wheels were like a piece of jewelry. I'd keep them in storage but use stock wheels if this is in your budget. If you have FU money, then I'd keep the carbon wheels on the car. I would not sell the carbon wheels in either case. Come resell time, you should recoup the entire cost of them.

The car will be worth less % of its MSRP without the wheels included in the sale. Will it tank the sale of the car completely, probably not. It will make it a harder sell since the wheels are a massive visible option. If you sell the wheels now, maybe you get $25k or so for them? Would that be the same drop in value off MSRP not including them?

Sell the wheels now, or keep them with the car it is up to you. Ultimately you will have to decide if the money makes sense selling the wheels with or without the car.

Put the carbon fiber wheels in the Ferrari box and store them until you sell the car with 2 sets of wheels and the new owner can decide. The new owner I am sure would like receiving 2 sets of Ferrari wheels.

Less unsprung weight means the car will accelerate and stop just a tiny bit faster. It also will handle better because the suspension will be quicker. Supposedly, reducing unsprung weight is one of the biggest single things you can go to get extra performance.

My fear would be damaging a wheel. However, it’s a Ferrari. The entire thing is something that you’re going to be worried about damaging. If you plan on using the car the way most F8 owners do, meaning a few thousand miles a year on select roads then I don’t see the problem. It may be the perfect car to have carbon fiber wheels on.

If you really need to drive this car more often and daily drive it over potholes or something, then I would look at getting a set of Ferrari OEM forged wheels. Would definitely go forged to try and minimize the weight.

as the others have said definitely keep the wheels if you take them off. When you go to sell this car it might be one of the only ones on the market that has the carbon wheels which means that your car will be special and bring a little more money.

But why not just enjoy the carbon wheels and use them if you can?

The reality is that in normal economies, options have minimal Effect on resale price (except triple Layer paints maybe) as long as you put on OEM wheels you will be fine and probably make out better financially selling the new CF wheels. I certainly wouldn’t put in aftermarket wheels which many feel is unfavorable in resale. The other option would be to keep the Cf ones and put them back on when sell your car You could then sell the new wheels with the car or on the open market. However my experience doing this in the past with some Porsches I had two sets with (summer and winters) is that most buyers won’t pay a premium for two sets of wheels and you do better selling them separately

Carbon wheels are fungible goods. Their absence will lower the price of the car, probably somewhat proportionately. If the buyer is hung up on it, they can source a set of wheels after purchase. They don't have VINs on them, after all.

That is true but here's a question. I would "guess" that those carbon fiber wheels did show up on the window sticker and if they didn't and showed up as "other options" on the window sticker, then the build sheet should have the carbon fiber ones listed I would think. Besides, nobody should ever try to fool anybody like they would commonly do on old muscle cars.

I almost always put custom wheels on my cars and save the originals for resale. If I found a car that had custom wheels that I loved, that would be a plus for me. But the odds that someone else chose the exact same brand, model, size, and finish I would want are are pretty slim. That's the danger with any customization. With that said these are expensive cars, so you should make it the way that makes you happiest.

For me not worth the hassle. Having to spend even more money, another 10,000, for a forged Ferrari rim set, just to avoid using the 30,000 dollar wheels I already have seems like a pain. Not to mention paying to have them swapped, transporting the other wheels back home
, storing them, etc. I would just enjoy the carbon wheels.
