Has anyone installed the 360 Challenge race car steering rack in their Modena / spider / CS? If so did it improve the driving experience for road use?

The steering in the Modena / S and CS feels quite a slow in comparison to the latest F cars and I've read that the Challenge race cars used a faster rack.

How I wish that rack was available in RHD form - I would have one installed by now.

I agree with you that the standard ratio is far too high.

The F430 uses the same rack as the 360. Ratio information:

Seeing that table makes sense now - wow the 360 / 430 ratio is slow! I’m RHD as well. Might look into getting a custom rack built as it’s the one area that really dates the driving experience.

I've already been in contact with Quaife and for some reason they won't make a PAS rack & pinion. The Scuderia rack is still a bit high for me and the 458/FF/California too low at 11 something. ~13:1 is my preferred ratio for road use. I'm looking at the 599 rack but need dimensions - I already know the UJ splines are different but that's easily sorted. It has a bypass valve for increased low speed assistance but I would remove that and plug it.

I've put some pilot sport 4S tyres on and that has certainly sped up the front, or at least made it feel much more responsive. Keep us posted on a faster rack, that is something I wouldn't mind installing.

Are steering quickeners available for Ferrari? Another option perhaps.

Challenge Steering Rack installed. NOT stradale, but from the race car. Lock to lock is very short, making turns is now more difficult, you really have to plan it out. You can't do U turns. Steering on highway is 100% improved, no more bus feeling.

Don’t use challenge cars steering rack. They are made to not have tight steering radius to the clearance needed for their brake ducting.

You are right it drives like bus in a sense you can't take turns
BUT, the steering is more sensitive, when I said bus I mean like a bus when you move the steering wheel and not much happens on the road. This was an experiment probably not ideal for most people hence why its on the race car.

Thanks for sharing, that's very useful to know. I was looking into converting a rack to RHD; but based on your experience, it doesn't sound ideal for the roads here in UK/Europe!
