Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has any experience with an issue I’ve just encountered. Trying to start my F430, key in ignition , all dashboard lights come up as usual, however when I press the ‘start’ button the starter motor ( or what sounds like ) just ticks rapidly without starting the engine. Anyone encountered this issue? Just wondering if the battery could be low or more bigger issue…… Thanks in advance for any comments Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Based on your description..battery is very very weak Get it fully charged or replaced Do not jump car Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
I would start with the battery, especially if you don’t drive the car frequently. They drain quickly. Is it on a trickle charger? If not, plug it in to one, and as Flash32 said, don’t jump it.
Thanks for the comments! Yes it’s on the article Charger ( factory supplied ) however thinking now it’s been showing Half Charged Icon for a while now with no Green Full Charge light. Last used just over a week ago. If the battery is that low, wouldn’t the dash lights /radio not start? ( I thought everything electrical would be unusable ) Will charge again tonight and see if any luck tomorrow and will hope it’s just a battery replacement. Thanks again Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
If the lights on charger say half way for a long time ..that is a tell take sign that your battery is going south and if left long enough will burn out your charger Do you have another charger .. like a 10 amp one that you can connect directly to battery for a few hours ? How old is battery? Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
Do yourself a favor and replace the battery every 3 years. Buy the first one now. It saves the alternator, keeps away electrical gremlins, etc. costs about $150 to 200 usd.
Thanks All. Judging by the comments, battery replacement it is then! [emoji28] Last question, anyone know if I do this myself if it’s going to trigger the immobiliser code? Replacement looks pretty straight forward looking at the passenger footwell. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Turn off the master switch in trunk before replacing the battery. No immobilizer problems. Don't close the trunk completely after switching off the master.
Definitely the battery, replace it. It’s a 30 minute job, max. Keep it on a tender after that. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
The switch is in the negative line, not the positive. Be careful not to short the socket to the bodywork when releasing the positive terminal, i wrap mine in insulation tape.
I live in Central CA, cold (about 34 degrees) this morning, key on, all tests 'ok', but my f430 starter button did nothing. My first thought was, cold causes plastic and metal to shrink, perhaps it's just not making contact. Let's open the garage door, use sun to warm the area. Presto, two hours later, the button works fine. I spent several hours on Ferrarichat while waiting, and found all sorts of expensive, and/or complex, 'solutions' to this 'problem'. Thus, don't forget that cold shrinks things.
If negative terminal disconnected by trunk switch in off position, there will be no spark if the socket wrench touches the bodywork. That’s why you should turn off the battery switch before removing it. It will spark if the wrench shorts between the terminals on battery regardless if switch on or off.
It's been shown on some (at least) F430's that a few circuits bypass the trunk switch. There are 3 terminals on the negative terminal. Only one appears to go to the cutoff switch. If any of the others are used, there is a shorting risk. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes I missed that. You guys are absolutely right. I did however on my 430 move the auxiliary grounds on the terminal to chassis grounds and eliminated that problem. I had a total battery discharge with switch turned off and discovered that was the problem. I had forgotten that I had moved the grounds. I also wrapped all metal crossbars with electrical tape to prevent the problem as well. Thank you for pointing this out to me.
The earth is a quick release and works fine but the positive is a clamp bolt and a pain, why they are not both quick release is odd
The neg ground on the 458 is quick release but not on the 430. I think you can buy quick release terminals and convert it though. The pos on the 458 is a conglomerate of fuses wires and contacts in a plate like configuration that might be difficult to convert. I added a copper plate to the pos terminal tightening bolt with extra terminals for battery charger and a Bluetooth monitor and aftermarket stereo connection. Made for simpler wiring and connections.
