f12 is a simpler, more classic design that will age better. But I will say the 812 Competizione rights all the wrongs of the 812 SF
FWIW, and any and all other disclaimers [emoji4] When I first saw the 812SF, I thought it a more aggressive car than the F12b, but the more I saw of it, the more I came around to a little different conclusion, some details are more aggressive than details on the F12, but the overall car is actually a bit less aggressive looking. I think the F12b prettier and a more cohesive design. The SF has the benefit of more power and another level of performance. I think the F12 actually has better steering feel and more natural steering reactions (I thought the RWS in the SF was a little bit weird, not so with the TDF so go figure- just my impressions). 812SF has a more refined ride and much better at handling repeating road undulations. Overall its really a no lose situation- both are front engined supercars. I think the F12b is a touch more in the GT camp and the SF is a touch more in the supercar camp. But the TDF is another league from these and I have a feeling the Comp will be as well. Not having driven the comp, to me right now, I say the TDF is the greatest modern Ferrari. I "totally" agree with what you write, with one exception, the GT side of the F 12. If you change the springs for "harder" ones, adapt the ride height and the geometry (which I did on mine), you'll have a radically different car that forgets its GT side. The anti-roll bars are identical to those of the TDF, so do not hesitate to carry out the operation and take full advantage of this machine. I've had it for 6 years, and every time I take it, it's a challenge to ride with it !
Oh yes, Ferrari usually gets it right for the majority of us, but if you are willing to take a step and tweak things, you can often get things more to your taste. I also think when the F12 was planned they were not dealing with a world where there were cars with turbo V8s making nearly as much power. As the flagship, the big V12 has to answer these challenges. The 812 did its best, but I always thought its persona was a bit conflicted between its GT role and its supercar battling role. I think the F12 personality was a bit better aligned to its role. I should say I think the 812 GTS is actually the better variation of the 812, they relaxed its persona just a touch, and I think its better for this. The general platform provides tremendous performance, but fundamentally, a (rear) mid engine layout is a bit easier for most of us to enjoy as a max performance machine. Going forward, the V12 is no longer the flagship, while there is a bit of a sadness around this reality, there is also an upside: the V12 vehicle can focus more on the more subjective things we all enjoy, as opposed to providing world leading performance. They have the SF90 for that. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
I think the 812 is a car that doesn't look pretty in pictures - you have to stand next to it. When I saw the pictures when it came out it looked like a corvette to me. Standing next to one in person, the 812 is a pretty car. Not a classic as the F12 but with much more presence.
Was literally going to just post the exact same sentiment in this thread. F12 looks better in photos, but IRL when you have both side by side, the 812 is the winner in my books
I agree. I’ve had both. They are both gorgeous. The 812 however with the five spoke wheels in non Batman colors is the ultimate.
