I don't understand: In one sentence you say you'd be "interested" if an aftermarket kit came out for $35k........and yet there is an OEM setup for $35k available now. Why would you want an aftermarket cable kit for a mid 2000s Ferrari made in the US in 2022/2023 as opposed to the OEM system made by Ferrari when the car was originally produced?

    I meant I’d be interested to “know”….

A non-oem cable kit for just me personally at $35k would be a no.

I have and am an analog 550 guy.

I would have and would still possibly buy an F1 575 enjoy and then convert but the overall economics to buy and convert a 575 would have to be lower than an equivalent 550. That math doesn’t work out at $35k plus labor.

I see, now I understand. Although if converting a SuperAmerica that makes lots of sense or rather, lots of $$$$$$.

Even a normal 575 makes a lot of sense. The reality is Ferrari was a small company and they ddin't spend hundreds of millions of dollars on preproduction testing. Rather, like Aston Martin, they refined their cars year after year. The 575 has many improvements over a 550, including a more powerful engine and an interior some (myself) find an improvement over the 550.

The 575 is also significantly more rare than a 550, with only 2,056 575 produced compared to something like 3300 550.

$45k to convert a perfectly good F1 575 with non-OEM parts sourced from a shop with a questionable reputation? Hard pass.

Dave, you know what else is a "hard pass".....I've mentioned before that I spent my childhood in Iowa....my mom and brothers are still there.....you know what else is a hard pass.....Minus 34 tonight with the windchill!

If its that cold for you across the river then stay warm and be safe for the holiday! ;-)

Here are more specific numbers that I could find:

550 Production not including over 450 Barchetta is 3,083 and all 3,083 are manuals

575M Production not including SuperAmerica: 2064 of which only 246 were Manual

So more than 1,000 more 550 produced than 575

For nearly every 13 manual shift 550 there is only 1 575 Manual.

IMO, hence the value of an OEM or OEM Parts converted 575. Reality is its easier to find a 575 Manual than OEM parts to convert the 575 to a manual. I have two sets. One for sale the other I'm installing in my to-be-acquired SuperAmerica.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you Eric! Yep, we got it good and hard, too...same temps here couple of nights ago. Gonna warm up to mid-40s, though, by mid week. Gotta love that midwestern roller coaster wx....NOT! Gotta also NOT love the salt coating all the roads. Ugh. 550's in deep hibernation until spring, whenever that comes around. :-(

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!

Re: Progress on my 575 conversion, there hasn’t been much to report. Since my last update, EAG has received the reconditioned interior trim and advised that my car should be ready in January…we’ll see! Wish I could unwrap these today lol.

I ordered the catalytics from Fabio and they are ready to ship out along with the custom module for the exhaust valve switch. It seems like a lot of R&D went into the dash switch exhaust valve function.

I’m so interested in the debate on the solid linkage Vs the cable system…I’ll weigh in on this and share some insight from my conversations with EAG in this regard. I was advised that it was my option to select which system to install and utilize. My instinct says the solid linkage is the way to go for this car. The main reason for the cable system is to reduce vibration into the shifter…I’m hoping that the new motor/trans mounts that EAG installed as part of the major go a long way in this regard. Art mentioned to me that he would replace solid linkage with the cable system down the road if needed. Art passionately prefers the cable system and I can understand why. It took him a long time to develop and it is a very clever solution, seemingly a necessary solution, for the 599. As the Maranello was originally designed with the solid linkage, I feel that I will enjoy this set up and it’s potential quirks.

One system that I am trying to figure out how to recondition (slightly upgrade) as a “while you are there” project is the audio system. A couple of decades ago, I used to build loudspeaker systems and crossovers (mostly from kits) as a hobb….so even though I have no plans to use the hifi system, I am compelled to tinker.

With Fabio’s exhaust system being the star of the audio system, I do not see myself firing up the hifi system to frequently. That said, I want to replace the woofers and subwoofers in the cabin…and I’m also considering upgrading the hifi amplifier (Maranello Audio) if I can figure out some quality aftermarket replacement options.

I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit researching this and found out that there is a limited amount of information on the topic. Any feedback here would be welcome and appreciated!

I found what seems to be a direct replacement for the woofers in the doors via this instagram post

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B9G6oyAhP5z/?hl=en

    I
purchased these (Audison AP5) for ~$100 on eBay…

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/224461498191

I still have yet to determine:

    1) was it the right decision to opt for the midrange vs the coaxial (woofer vs woofer/tweeter) combo. Audison also makes the APX5 coaxial. Is the OEM driver a woofer or a coaxial?

    2) if I am going to replace the tweeters in the dash? I think not.

    3) if the ap5 or apx5 is a plug and play solution for the rear quarter speakers as well? I asked Dave at EAG if he can look into the fitment here…I’ll follow up and report back.

    4) what would be a plug and play solution for the hifi subwoofer? I reached out to Mike at Scuderia Audio in September and he was in R&D mode seeking a solution. I will follow up with Mike in the New Year and report back.

@360trev , I wanted to invite you to the 575 conversion thread party. Trev has been an amazing resource for me during this process.

I have heard directly from owners of 360s (with his tune) that the car is transformed into its best expression.

Trev, how would you expect this 575 to perform on a Dyno? Any commentary you can provide re: the change in driving dynamics to be expected?

@Mellow_Maranello I still want you to be the first to test drive my 575 :) I am also expecting his car to be in his garage before mine lol

@Ferrari55whoa Eric, would you say the Alistair’s converted 575 is likely in the top 1% of desirable Maranello’s on the road?

SHORT answer — yes ;-) for most I think his G/T car or a R/C Rosso Corsa would be the “Alicorn-Status” car.

EDIT - as a reminder for those not in the know or without young daughters….when a princess Unicorn is granted her wings, that’s when she attains Alicorn status.

I absolutely love my remote Fabio mufflers that’s a must add in my opinion.

    LONG answer….
    I’m a weirdo non-traditionalist.

I’m also weird because this last week when I couldn’t sleep I took the registry found all the chassis for the known 2005 HGTC 575’s of which Alistairs is one….then reverse engineered the full VINs for those cars and then set up google searches for all of them so that if there is any activity in the future I will theoretically know.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around how erotic an OEM converted 575 HGTC with Fabio and @360trev ’s hot tune would be….. I’ve literally had sleepless nights about it….

I was texting with Joe @Qksilver this week and I stated one could argue that those HGTC cars could be more valuable than a SA….

By the way…have I mentioned I believe there is only 1 white Bianco US SA….

Here are some of my personal problems…
+) I personally prefer less common colors… NOT R/C or Grigio Titanio so that takes the list to perhaps 5 cars?
+) I would need driver mile “lower” price - if miles would even reduce the price - and I believe 6 of the 10 are under 17k miles….I believe the only one so far that I know of over 20k miles is a RossoCorsa (beggars can’t be choosers ;-) there are 2 black on black that I have no clue about….
+) parking - I’m already storing cars off site 8-(
+) I’m “economically fortunate” but not so wealthy I could justify to my wife to add a $200k+ 575 AND keep my (forever 550) and the rest of my small collection (I just cannot bear to let any in the collection go)….I would have to spend YEARS annoying her with all the research and facts and then have the “search parameters” so tight and specific that she would know how much it would mean to me when I eventually “make my pitch”….

P.s. Dan Van Voorhis this year sold his absolute gorgeous cDf 575 HGTC at such a strong price….

As I’ve stated many times….I absolutely LOVE “the hunt”….maybe I can play around and hunt for ages and never find the perfect 575 for my conversion…..

@dhalperin13 i would also publicly note that while my “love of the hunt” perversion is strong….”additional icing on the cake” for me personally is your adventure on getting such a fantastic price on both of your two 575’s (what an adrenaline rush) and then this “build adventure” you are on is an amazing extended tease. ;-)

It took me years to find my tagged Yuma Yellow Meyers Manx which was fun/exhausting and then I built it in my garage over a series of years (with outside help)….so I’ve really been blessed with that experience (and did it before my girls could really walk/talk and “free time” for me was much more liberal).

When you have a “normal car” it feels like you should always be using it….when you have a racecar (or heaven help me with more than 1 racecar — and others here — I’m looking at @fatbillybob and @308 GTB) for me it doesn’t make me feel as guilty when the race vehicles sit for longer periods….

Im ashamed at how little I’ve driven my 550 this year….

    Merry Christmas everyone!

@Ferrari55whoa I'm hopeful to have an update for you by end of next month or early February. @dhalperin13 I would love to drive your car and hopefully timing/schedules align where we can go for a little 575 swap outing at some point in the New Year. The last thing I need is to spend more $ on this car but I'm curious how your audio upgrade exploration goes.

The wait is tough but I think the end is near so I'm incredibly excited. On a personal note I failed to properly stagger maintenance and upgrade work on my "fancy" fun cars (3 cars currently draining the bank account but away from my possession!) and for the last 6 months I've really only driven my 2007 Audi RS4. While I love that car and have had it since new, it's a far cry from a V12 Ferrari (and worth about the same as a Fabio exhaust plus oil change). Given the time away getting back behind the wheel of the 575 will be that much sweeter!

Eric, regarding the "best" 575s I sure think mine will be fantastic but there are just so many color combinations that work on the Maranello. Imagine Giallo over Nero with race seats, Pozzi over Cuio with contrast Daytona inserts, I've done a total 180 on Rosso Corsa and now love it, that white 575 is incredible etc etc. The best Maranello is the one in your garage (unless you're @Qksilver and have 2 or more...)

The “problem” is only relevant to 612 and 599, which use a lot of the same components for the manual swap, but have much chunkier torque tubes. As such the gear link bar runs very close to the outside of the torque tube. Before I made some minor adjustments to mine, I used to get a slight vibration in 6th gear only, which is the position where the widest part of the gear link bar (which ironically is the vibration damper) runs closest to the torque tube. Since then, no issues to speak of.
