Hi I just bought a 1997 F355 GTB. I've been searching for information on what radio it should have and concluded that it should be the SONY XR-F20 unless someone here has any other opinion? However, I also found information that many cars didn't come with a radio since that was not standard equipment. Is this true? Cheers /Erik
I have owned my F355B since 2001, in that time I have had the radio on exactly 3 times and none of them in the last 15 years. I simply don't see why anyone would want a radio in a car such as an F355 with the engine drowning out any sense of Hi-Fi. Besides, the engine makes better music than 99% of all bands ever.........
You can also check the various parts diagrams for the models, its listed I have seen it. It may have been dealer installed. Don't know off hand but it's easy to do various searches here and external to find it. I think there were 2 choices. Also check ebay sites for used ones once you find the model. Good luck. Mitch and I have given the two required cliched responses, while Ferrarium said exactly what I said in his usual kind manner.
I'm sorry if I was not clear on my question. I do know that I can find radios on ebay, this as an example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334680290627 I would rather not pay that price and have a "radio delete" instead since, as pointed out by Mitch, I would probably never use it. However, I would like to have my car as close to factory stock as possible. So my question was more, if I would remove the current radio and install the cover: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134279145703 instead, would that be considered stock? Or would it be assumed that there should be a radio present?
What difference would it make? Genuinely, I don’t understand. Until it’s time to sell it I don’t see how originality at that level of detail matters to anyone. Please enlighten me. I like originality too, don’t get me wrong, but a stereo is so simple to swap out; just do what you like.
The OEM stereo actually comes in handy when you find an old tape in the attic and you're wondering what's on it.
As far as I know they came without stereos unless you ordered it with one. I suspect they were then dealer installed, so no radio is indeed stock form as well. Sent from my SM-G990U using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I had the porsche classic radio w nav installed in mine, its plug and play as its compatible with the becker OEM unit which your car may have come with...just cover the porsche logo with black tape (porsche logo will come up on start screen but not a big deal)
Someone always has to post the " Engine is your radio" posts...as if having good music in the car is a sin lol. Of course we know the engine sounds amazing on the 355 but many of us also like to listen to radio and have nice clear sound- on mine i did all new bigger speakers and an amp hidden all looked 100% stock and sounded fantastic along with the Porsche classic radio
Yes, it's simpel to swap out. That is, if you have an original one on the shelf. They will probably not get cheaper or more easy to find as the years go by.
clearly it matters to a lot of people, given the costs of the originals on the secondary market. I’d want one if I didn’t have one.
It was simply meant as humor and to celebrate the aural and visual beauty of the 355 engine- Not a criticism- people can and should do whatever they want with their cars ... and the pic was incorrect- The OPs car is a 97
Any dealer could tell you if your car came from the factory with a radio and/or cd 6-pack. The question is - will they? Some won't bother, but otherwise all they need to do is punch your vin into their system and out comes the original options list, colors, etc.
I have the original Sony head unit in mine and the cd changer in the frunk, hasn’t powered on in my stewardship and although I find it frustrating that it’s the ONLY thing that doesn’t work in my car, I don’t think I would have ever turned it on! One day I’ll get around to having it repaired..especially considering their value! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I think these were all the radios used though the 95-99 years. No Radio SONY XR-F20 SONY XR-F21RDS SONY XR-C720
Parts book implies at some stage there were also Beckers used - possibly 6104 maybe 4372 But basically see post #2 !!
The OP says he prefers a radio delete plate. Radio delete plates exist, so clearly it was a factory option. Why this thread exists, I’ll never know.
