He must plan his route very carefully to avoid even the smallest of speed bumps with that splitter!

That pic really catches the lines of the F40 like none I have seen before. 35 years old design, no way! just like Concorde, it is timeless in its look.

92189 goes to sleep in anticipation of a potential new owner tomorrow. Interestingly, the Mecum description says that Marcel saw this one on the production line. 1992 US spec 11k miles Tubi exhaust + stock included Books and tools Classiche cert + Massini report Mechanically restored by Evans Automotive 12 months ago 3.7-4m USD estimate. High for the miles? Gooding hit 3.97m with an 1,800mi car at Monterey, one that some knowledgable people said was the nicest they’d ever seen. On the other hand, RM hit 3.86m that same weekend with similar miles to this Mecum car. But overall if the reserve is close to that 3.7m mark this could be a no-sale. Value aside, I still swoon when I see this thing in either major spec, and this was my last photo of the day before they turned the lights off and told me to go home or I’d be locked in. I entertained the idea… Image Unavailable, Please Login
You left out the most recent and perhaps more relevant public auction result of RM Sotheby's 85596 which had just 2,736 miles and brought $3,250,000 all-in on December 10th, bear in mind that Mecum's 92189 has 4 times the mileage of RM's 85596, if you wish to put things in perspective.
I was listing the (public) sales that have achieved Mecum's target range of 3.7 - 4m USD. I wasn't in the room and the livestream archives are not up yet for me to confirm, but I assume the seller allowed the reserve to be dropped during the bidding, which happens a lot during Mecum auctions. I kind of doubt the reserve would have been as low as $2.85m when the low estimate was $3.7m. Here is a backside photo as penance. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the video, haven't seen that one. Looks like a P Zero marketing/PR piece from the time and shows the F40 driven well by a legend. The shots of Surtees driving in the Dolomites show how beautiful this region is and reminded me of the Cavalcade Classiche last September. A fantastic 3 days enjoying similar roads including a Police escort and not much emphasis on speed limits. Here are a few more shots from the event. There were 8 F40's in attendance.
