Hi guys, My ferrari f12 light bulb is not working so i wanted to change it, they said its not possible to change the bulb only, i must change the whole headlight, anyone who knows how can i fix that problem without changing the whole headlight?
How do you know it's the light bulb and not the ballast/power supply? If you can figure out which of the two ballasts is for the headlight, look for a part number. Image Unavailable, Please Login You may be able to search online for the part number and buy a used power supply to see if it fixes the problem. This looks like the same design as one of the ballasts, but I don't know if it's the same part number: https://aus.grandado.com/products/used-kit-oemhids-oem-for-14-17-quattroporte-xenon-ballast-7green-89089352-d3s-bulb-module-l90028085-computer-90036242?variant=UHJvZHVjdFZhcmlhbnQ6MTI5OTEyNTAx Here's another (it even says it is compatible with the F12) https://www.yakaequiper.com/gtranslate/gtranslate.php?glang=en&gurl=ballast-xenon-type-valeo-7green-89089352-p-3228.html&osCsid=du9s6gnkgtkevphp4v50bbgk11 Made in China? "compatible with D3S D3R and D4S D4R bulbs"? Do you know the bulb type? Xenon? According to FChat it may be a D3S: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/does-anyone-know-f12-headlight-bulb-size.596409/#post-146508413 Be very careful when handling these high voltage devices. You might want to try asking this question on the F12 forum.
Thanks for the info, the dealer checked it and said that they need to replace it , i will need to double check if it really needs the whole headlight to be replaces or is it a just small issue
I would definitely get a second opinion before spending that kind of money. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience on the F12, and don't know what they have done to come up with that diagnosis. If the assembly is not too hard to remove, I would be looking for part numbers on lamps and ballasts.
I guess they already checked the fuse. May be you can swap the bulb with the other working side to detrmime if it is the bulb. If not, see if you can swap the ballast.
@Qavion 's recommended Valeo balasts does seem physically compatible, as a worst case it does not match the bulb, (wrong voltage or wattages) so this one would also have to be changed. While you are there perform the same on the other side so as to have "matched" headlight. Definitively worth trying given the $6k quote!
Yes we have checked it and the ballast is not working, its very hard to find the L90020945 part number
What country are you in? A quick google search shows used ones all over Ebay for around $50 used. Apparently used in the Jeep Cherokee and Maserati Levante. Made by Valeo. Here is an example, a "new", "take off" for $50 delivered. L90035854 OEM Valeo 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Xenon Headlight LED module DRL | eBay
Eurospares only shows the entire unit for $2725: https://www.eurospares.co.uk/Parts/291706/Ferrari/New/100053
Even an Audi headlamp is worth 600€, but why would you change the complete headlamp when all the car needs is a ballast and a bulb? If replacing a perfectly fine lense and casing makes sense, while we are there we could also replace the wire harness, the bumper and the fender! Just kiding obviously, but a good automotive electrician should easily adress this and replace just what's needed.
Wow! If you can't replace just the bulb ballast just wait until a few years go by and the headlight assembly is nla.
Just wait until someone needs to replace the battery pack in a 296 GT. And it doesn't matter "the mileage" you put on the car for the battery to go bad.
I ran a custom Xenon HID setup on my Yamaha R1. You can buy the ballast stuff on ebay usually. I'd think you could probably take one apart or find just the ballast part and wire it in maybe. Either that, or maybe you could just bypass the entire thing and/or maybe just convert over to LED bulbs and bypass the ballast module totally? Hard to say without looking at the housing and/or taking it apart. Sometimes you can heat them up and pull the lens off (check YouTube for videos on how to do it). What's the latest as far as the dealer goes? Ray
