I’m glad you said that. Everyone is “addicted” to something. I could make a judgment call about the type of people whom are addicted to the gym, and it wouldn’t be pretty. But it would also be wrong. Well. Sometimes it would be wrong… Just as making a judgment call on the type of people whom like to have a drink or two after working hard and achieving something each day. We’re all different, as you have said. It’s best not to judge.
As a post script, I cannot deny that some of the greatest pieces of literature, art, music, engineering & design were created through the use of drugs, be it alcohol or illegal drugs. So to lecture against drugs whilst enjoying its benefits is a bit rich. 100% agree. If I had to be really honest, I'm a bit schizophrenic on whether drugs should be decriminalised or not. I've grown up around drug users since I was 12 years old, so I've seen the bright and dark of side of its usage. When I was in Italy in 2019, I was shocked at how open drug usage was. My ex partner was a paramedic and had a very anti drug stance, most of it stemmed from her experiences whilst working. So my issue fundamentally is how you manage your drug of choice. If one can function and do amazing things whilst taking their drug of choice in moderate or small dosages, all the power to them. I've read about amazing outcomes from micro dosing psilocybin/LSD. Sadly Steve, many users cannot manage their drugs and inflict collateral damage. I know this from personal experience. Often I turned a blind eye to friends drinking or taking drugs or thought they were managing their drug usage, until they weren't. Then all hell broke loose. If I changed your story about coming home from a hard days work and switched from having a few drinks to smoking a joint or having some magic mushrooms, would your view be the same? I also believe you really can't understand the nature of a drug until you have tried it a few times as it appears the experience is different for everybody. For example, I actually don't understand how a person who regular drinks/gets drunk and then pass judgement of someone smoking ice or snorting cocaine. For many, they could take cocaine/marijuana/ice/MDMA etc once, twice or up to several times a year and never be addicted and gain most of benefits without paying the heavy price of addiction. For many others as well, one snort and they're hooked and down the rabbit hole they go. I also think who supplies your product counts for a lot, as Keith Richards explained in his autobiography 'Life'. I can't believe people take some of stuff out on the streets given how it is made and cut for distribution. Its a complicated issue that I haven't fully resolved in my mind (I guess because it's a case by case issue) but I'm glad Rob prefers his scat and has it under control (for now).
Amen to that. I could care less about alcohol, I just love a cold beer on a hot day, or good quality wine with a meal. Unfortunately I can't find a zero alcohol beer that has as good a taste and there's definitely no such thing as drinkable no-alcohol wine. Who needs drugs when you have Klink's prawns to eat and an ice-cold beer to drink!
I also love a cold beer on a hot day but the older I get I find the less I drink - twice recently, after planting trees all day, I have poured out the third beer. Just couldn't drink it. And I do miss a nice bottle of wine but, since the wife's pancreas tried to kill her again for no particular reason she has had to rid herself of all possible causes and I have joined in support. Fortunately, she has never taken to beer or scotch..
I'll 15th that! Actually ALL the prawns will be first up this year and some alternative ideas gratefully accepted....perhaps give the fish, lamb and chook a miss and have a decent steak and salad after the prawns????
You lush Also, today I realised I am the person that balances out the work environment ........ all of the other guys are glass-half-full types ............ I'm glass-empty, **** 'em
