Ferrari 456 cars for sale

Interesting question though, does a 360 “restoration” cost more than a 456M ?

I have zero 360 experience but I know they built a (relative) boatload of them so finding parts and experienced service is in that corner.

Are 360 cars expensive to run too ? I always wanted to pick one up to play with for a year or 2 and clock like 8k or so… but I would not want to have it in the shop as much as my 456M. I would hope it would be a more reliable daily.

 

I spent over $35K getting only the drivetrain and electrical system sorted out on mine. Unbelievable amounts of aftermarket audio crap in the wiring harness and the engine had to come out because of disintegrated pre-cats.

I did (in a relatively serious tone) mention to my wife last week…”I wonder if it would be fun to have an FF for a daily”….she didn’t get angry which was nice ;-) Baby steps for me….

 

For a level playing field.. how much of that was self induced (by previous owner) and did you know it going in? Was your purchase price adjusted accordingly? Or was that $35k worth of surprises?

 

Good question, even my 2003 GTA has $70k+ in receipts since new, no real major drivetrain or heavy electric work either. BUT if this V12 drivetrain came out for repair AND my electrical was sorted, I would be very excited to only pay $35k.

The FF daily is always on my radar too ! A cursory review of the maintenance scares me though.
I think I could slowly nudge the wife into an FF but she loves her Bimmer wagon.

 

No surprise. It was a yellow sunroof/stick. One of ~10 manual sunroof cars. One of two in yellow. It was worth it and I knew the right guy to do the work. Took it on a 5k mile west coast trip. Perfectly reliable. Jim is a genius with Ferrari electrical systems. He did my 456M too. THAT was also not inexpensive!

Both are nice examples but that 2003 M Rosso Fiorano on BAT is just out of control.
I would have bought that car in a heartbeat when I was looking for my GTA. I actually tried to track down a similar car to no avail. If it just had Daytona seats - it would be perfect !

Some people (gasp !) may actually prefer the GTA in such a spec. Took me like 1.5 years of hunting. The auto trans in these things is seriously underrated, and alot of fun. I love it for as much as I drive it around here. Driving my (434CID) 6 speed C5 has even become a bit of a chore at this point. I guess I am old now. Hop in the GTA and banging around LA is just easy.

I do hear what you are saying though...the shifter cars are great too.

I would love to have a 456….too many cars already but having a 456 in auto with the 2 small rear seats for my girls and an auto would be perfect. The 550 or my other cars scratch the manual itch.

 

The 456 feels much bigger in manual…the auto manages the weight much better in my opinion

 

The secondary air injection monitor “drama” that the BAT GTA went through early in those invoices is absolutely terrifying.

I mean seriously and that was at a dealer working with FNA (not like they can help but still).

 

I ask this seriously. If the owner of a car that has a 2ndary air injection monitor is only addressing it to pass smog in CA and they already were a good boy and paid the taxes historically then it really is “following the rules” to go thru all that and not just change state registration?

 

Have caught the 'must have a front v-12 stick before I die' bug...

I've been in and out of the 456 market for 3 years. Prefer to spend under $100k. Favorite color pairing is dark red/green/blue with tan interior. And I have zero interest in that car. Zero. $80k seemed within the realm of reasonable if the service was up to date. $90k, knowing the major was overdue but including it (allegedly) was a high. Now there's no mention of a major being included. If they don't have a receipt from a reputable FCar shop (not sure there's many of those in Hamburg) I would treat it as not-done, because they are not an exotic dealer and I have no faith in their ability to do it in-house. Price keeps going up, market keeps going down. Like I said, this checks all the boxes of what I want, but I have no desire to pursue the car. When it comes down to $80k I'll put it on my radar.

Not for nothing, there are multiple people that say SAS has a reputation for bringing in accident cars from Canada and selling them as clean CarFax cars. Can't say if it's true, obviously. But this car spent 10 years across the border. Run a canadian CarFax if you're even thinking twice about it.
