Hi Mark, yes, has been briefly presented a few weeks ago In my view, a very promising and interesting book. And see Maarten's post at Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CnjhQ94oYZd3PMU33lxJUTrE9ywH4Sn2Yj57I80/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Sven
Strange, works fine when I try it. Ah, I know what happened: Maarten's account at Instagram is a private one! You have to be a follower of his (@maartengroenen)
Here’s an idea for a book, but since he’s recently deceased, it’ll have to be a biography without the primary source: Alain de Cadenet. What interesting guy, who apparently lived a great life. He’s one of those people I wish I’d known. It’s a shame that he didn’t leave us with his memoirs. I’ll bet he often considered it or had it suggested to him, but always thought, “Aw, there’ll be plenty of time for that.”
I just ordered it. I’m being very selective with my book purchases but I enjoy these types of memoirs by people who have been sort of out of view but still deeply involved for many years.
I'm not sure if you've been listening to Justin Bell's podcast - Life With Legends, but one episode is with Alain de Cadenet, well worth a listen as are all the drivers he interviewed.
It's on my whishlist as well, but I'll wait with my order until the book really materialises. There have been too many publishing delays recently ...
The 550 Prodrive book is available on Rally Web Shop. Limited to 550 copies and €630 plus shipping. Estimated release date is April 27, 2023. https://www.rallyandracing.com/en/racingwebshop/books/new-books/ferrari-550-maranello-prodrive-the-last-v12-ferrari-to-win-at-le-mans?number=9901554001
I think the notification is due to the preorder status rather than being sold out. Girardo & Co. announced February 1st would be the first day of preorders. The price dropped to $588.79 + shipping during the checkout process. That was a nice.
Didn’t order (yet), but got to have a look at it today in Paris. Guys from Girardo were very kind and gave me one of the posters to accompany the book.
It looks well done (and well made), but for the price they could have done more in terms of artists X-rays etq.
Personally I think this book is way overpriced if you only look at the content. E.g. race histories of chassis and race reports can be easily found elsewhere. As a (Ferrari) car book lover on a smaller budget I am not willing to pay for lavish slip cases etc. But to each their own.....
Gruber and Maders DBR9 The Definitive History is how it should be done.Acetate pages detailing the underlaying construction of the car and all aspects covered with a comprehensive race history at the rear but not dominating the contents. Know its not a Ferrari but to me it sets the standard of a single make motor sport car book. And 200 pounds.
