What terrible times we live in.

Firstly, nearly every nation started from an invasion except possibly Africa. I'm not an anthropologist so I could be wrong but that is my basic understanding. Even Europe was founded on the Neanderthals being wiped out. Its the history of life. Before we can help the "First Nation' people, they need to work out who they really are now (identity and values), what direction they want to go (goals) and how to achieve it (a plan). Money isn't an answer if you don't know what the real problem is. It will just make things worse and breed corruption.

Secondly, we should be proud of who we are as Australians. Australia isn't a great place because of geography. That is incidental. What makes (made?) Australia great is (was?)our version of Western Judeo/Christian values and if we don't uphold and protect them, we will lose all the benefits. It's already happening. Sure, it isn't prefect but man, its a hell of better than most parts of the world. That's why people emigrate here in the first place. But EVERYTHING has a COST.

I lived in Japan for 10 years. I loved the place and had an easy life there. But its racist, sexist and misogynistic in ways one cannot believe. But you go there and you enjoy it because it has a clearly defined identity. The longer I was there, the more I realised I was an Australian living in Japan and although I loved aspects of the Japanese lifestyle, I was just a parasite. So I came back to Australia. I just don't understand people who emigrate to Australia and don't embrace the value system we have here. All you are then is an economic parasite. I know - I was one in Japan. So I came back. My life is harder here but I'm living a life according to my beliefs and principles.

I have a saying - Accept Chaos, Embrace Order - life is chaotic and this brings destruction as well as opportunity. But to navigate this chaos, we need order - basically a set of values and principles that guide us. Sure, these values and principles are not fixed and need to evolve but some are so fundamental, they are (mostly) immutable.

Happy Australia Day everybody. Lets celebrate what has been lost and protect what we have.
