Horse has reading problems...
So, Senator Thorpe would like to see rather than The Voice etched into the Constitution ....Ten independent First Nation senators elected to the upper Federal house! That should work well..NOT.
Yes - my point was humanity started from Africa and spread around the globe. Tongue firmly in cheek - You could argue that it was the original Africans that initially colonialized Europe, wiped out the Neanderthals and then these ancestors just returned to Africa. How do Palestinians feel about Israel? Who should pay (if any) the rent there? My point strictly isn't about the past - I (we?) can't undo that. Otherwise how far do we go? All we can do is try to make the existing system better. Otherwise, all we do is tear everything apart and have nothing left.
Have you read Homosapiens by Yuval Noah Harari? He's an Israeli professor and a brilliant mind, plus a great writer. While the first humanoid apes came from the Rift Valley in Africa, I'm not convinced that it was the single source of evolution to humans. Too many gaps in the fossil record, filled in with scientific " consensus" (just like climate change, but with less cheating). But whatever, the story of humanity is one of constant aggression. The current Aboriginals arrived here circa 9000 years ago at the end of the last Ice age. There appears to have been multiple preceding waves of immigration, no doubt wiped out by extreme droughts and other events. We could as easily have been a Dutch colony and the British only just beat the French to claim the place. Hands up who thinks the indigenous people would have been better off under either of them?
Let's,again, think of how well off they'd have been if the Japanese were successful in their invasion in WW2.
In 1986, I studied Australian History in year 12 and the 4 topics we covered were Aboriginal Studies, Australian Politics, The Labour Movement and Women in Australia. I even got 100% as my final grade. That's how well I got indoctrinated . Our (male) teacher had left wing ideals (and yes, he changed somewhat after joining the Labor party for a few years). I was educated in 'woke' thinking even before it became fashionable - so f... you Gen Zs. In Aboriginal studies, I was taught that Aborigines didn't have a construct that one could 'own' land. I believe this is so for most Indigenous cultures around the world. Avatar anybody? They believed that all living organisms were inseparable from the land upon which they existed, so theoretically one couldn't own the land. Their culture and religion (the Dream time) saw the Universe as one whole - which in a quantum sense is fundamentally correct. If this is so (and my understanding could be wrong), then to ask for rent for something which they thought you couldn't own is a violation of their fundamental beliefs. Every house or new construction is a desecration of a core belief. So to ask for rent or claim ownership is a contradiction. How can you own something that you thought couldn't be owned? There can be no Native Title if you don't believe in a title in the first place. Did we invade Australia? Of course we did. Did the early settlers commit horrendous and malevolent acts? Absolutely. But as Ian correctly stated, the story of humanity is constant aggression. The Indigenous Australians need to sit down and work out their place in the modern world, form some core beliefs and principles and work out a way forward. And then present a bill to pay. We can't put the genie back in the bottle or undo Pandora's Box.
It's all about money for many of 'em . All that is happening at the moment is the division of Australia . We will end up like The States a current of division and hate.
Most of the 'poor bugger me' folk talked about on here should read this, quite inspiring : https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-26/bosnian-war-refugees-new-home-australia-kalgoorlie/101867516 It will..of course..be TLDR for Horse.
I think it's about a minority of activists preying on the misery of the 20% of indigenous people who live in squalor in remote communities. They have no solution for the squalor, but they can use it to gain power. The irony is that the activists are usually middle class and were not brought up in traditional culture.
Quite inspiring, most of the “hand out” folk would have know eye dear. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
What about the double dipping? In VIC land tax on the property if it's held by a trust for another company apart from the one on the title (often a partnership) they tax you again .. So. 1.Land tax on the company holding it on behalf of another . 2.Land tax on the company who is the financial owner
No traditional Aborigine would have a concept of ‘collecting rent” but that’s what 235 years of ‘British Culture’ gets you... Unfortunately, as often happens, when you import a bunch of stuff you get a lot of junk with the good bits... and European Australians have taken that same amount of time to realise that the Aboriginals actually knew a hell of a lot more than they did about how to live with the Australian biosphere...
