And take a moment to remember how many went to fight for Australia in overseas wars and were still ignored when they returned home... 2 sides to every coin.
Pointed out to me by a senior medical guy the other week .... 40% of true Aboriginals live in swallow and drink, drugs, violence, rape, theft, and the IQ of a 10-year-old European child, it all adds up to a never-ending issue. Meanwhile, the city so-called ones enjoy a good life . They should feel lucky the British colonized the JOINT rather than the Dutch or French or under French /Dutch rule fell to the Japs during WW2. If the woke are so concerned go out and help in the regional outback or better still donate 200k towards an area of need.
As for the AFL clubs and their answer yesterday re the Voice, land and always was stuff......Look at your own history re the treatment of "the black fella"
So how much rent should WE pay? 1 to 10% of earnings ...........ouch if you are on the pension or have little super saved .
Interesting how over the last decade it's hard to find period articles or books on the cannibalism that took place . IMO they should be blessed that the Brits came along and NOT the French or Dutch.
Where do get 9000 years? The Lake Mungo remains were carbon dated to 40,000 years. No, they would NOT have been better off under French Dutch or any other western colony. Are the Northern Irish better off as a British colony? Were the early Americans better off under British rule? Was HK better off under colonial rule - yes, for a time until they were no longer required and then were abandoned, literally overnight! Colonialism is abhorent ; bring on the Republic and let’s have a true Australia Day that all can celebrate together.
Hasn't changed. I don't think we should pay rent and that will not change. Should Aboriginals receive subsidies and extra benefits as they currently do? Hmmm. Yes but instead of this silly Voice, the Aboriginals (traditional and the inner city mixed fakes that don't speak a word of their language or could recite the Dreamtime) should get together and trash out a plan/manifesto or whatever and collectively come up with a way to preserve what remains of their culture and identity in the modern world (which will change even more so in the coming decade than any other preceding decade). The leader should be a traditional Aboriginal too as they are most likely to be closest to representing their true culture.
[QUOTE="kerrari, post: 148969794, member: 13555" Aboriginals actually knew a hell of a lot more than they did about how to live with the Australian biosphere...[/QUOTE] Like what exactly? Burn the bush to make the animals run out so they can club them to death and eat them? They were at best Stone Age people back then and did what was needed to survive
I asked you first .................... I don't believe a lot of them have, or want to , and I don't blame them
40,000 years is what we were taught at school 30 years ago, but somehow in the intervening time that has gone to 45,000 years. Then 50,000, then 60,000… Yesterday that idiot Dan Andrews quoted 65,000 years! Where is the evidence for this? At this rate before you know it they’ll have been here before the earth cooled!
This is the problem - the traditional people don’t get a word in sideways; the discussion has been hijacked by suburban people. Don’t get me wrong, anyone with Aboriginal blood should be proud of that, but many have no better idea about how traditional people live than the average whitefella. Interestingly, it is very easy to hear when Aboriginal people are speaking, who actually grew up with their language and who has ‘learned’ it more recently; same with the dancing. The movements required for each are very foreign to westerners and not easily learned. I think it is also very difficult to try and straddle the two worlds - Gulpilil’s story illustrated this exactly.
NOT SO. They were paid EQUAL to other serving personnel during the wars . Big deal anyway. Few facts for others to KNOW. Over 500,000 Australians enlisted during WW2 and around 3,000 Aboriginals did. Over 34,000 Australians were killed during WW2 with over 31,000 taken prisoner. What you fail to NOTE, is that the Aboriginal laborer paid an important part in Northern Australia re airstrips, army farms, driving trucks, the docks etc.
Yes, but the 40,000 figure was established in the 70s long before there was any ‘fashion’ for Aboriginal history, and before the ‘history wars’ so I think it is much more reliable than any of the more recent figures (of either direction). The carbon dating figures for Lake Mungo would still exist on a paper record somewhere... Lake Mungo notes be limits on carbon dating here: http://www.visitmungo.com.au/dating-the-past
I was taught early in life to take responsibility for one's actions and life going forward. I'd suggest a few in Alice,Mt Isa,T.Creek and other towns do.
