Hey all! This is my dads 1981 ferrari 308 gtsi. We have owned it since 2009 and we were wondering what the exact color code of this car is? We always thought it was blu scuro but we are unsure now. Also wondering if anyone has seen this car back in the day. It was originally purchased at ferrari of Walnut Creek and was in California until we acquired it in 09. We have been trying to find the original owner in hopes that they still have the original service books vin is ZFFAA02A9B0037561 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It can be tricky identifying colors on computer screens, each screen can be calibrated differently causing considerable variation in tint. Even in your two photos the color looks different. I assume you tried comparing to this resource? http://www.308-328.com/308/308specstylen.html Cheers, BB
Sometimes that undercoat will "fingernail" flake off of a smooth paint sticker. Maybe try a more gentle chemical like goo gone, then possibly move to WD40 on a tiny test area & uncover the truth. Also, Can you tell us how those wheels became black with a polished face??
Thanks I will try it. Not sure about the wheels since we bought the car with them on. From what I’ve found these are the stock wheels that a shop in California used to refinish like this on many 308s back on the day
But I know for sure they were never a dealer option my guess is that the dealers in the area would bring the cars over to the shop at the request of the customer
It would be great to know what shop did the work, trying to find an old receipt to settle the mystery on another thread.
Yeah unfortunately we bought the car from a guy who found it in a storage unit who bought it to flip from the original owner so we never got any manuals or other info besides the title
The finish of the hood is actually Spray Shurtz, it's possible undercoating concealed the sticker or it was removed. If "under there" the good news is it's foil and written in ball point pen. Maybe it's there. Otherwise, the fuel filler neck or insode the doors are the two places you'll find unfaded OEM overspray...
Not sure it would be "written in ball point pen", Alan: that would only be the case if the car is (or was...) in "Glidden Salchi" paint; according to the chassis number given by the owner, that car might well have left the factory already in "Glasurit" paint; the switch occured in the spring of 1981, and that car seems to be right in the middle of it...
