I know a little bit about this stuff. Today’s NFL owners don’t give a damn about the sport. Owning a team is perhaps one of the best investments on the planet.

In SOME cases I agree with you: Houston, Chicago being an obvious two,
but the PLAYERS give a damn, for the most part.
Yeah, I will agree with you in that as soon as some moron signs a BIG contract
they disappear, and the list is LONG, anyone not a QB regresses to putting
in just enough effort to play. Zeke Elliott is NOTHING like he was his first year.

David Bakhtiari was a joke - 23 million cap hit? The guy has been injured and has
missed multiple games the last 3 seasons... when his contract is up he will have
made 148 Million dollars.... LOL

Biggest JOKE of all - J.C. Jackson. TERRIBLE CB, if he doesn't get cut we will have
made 88 million dollars. I was making fun of this clown when he played for NE, and the
Chargers sign him for BIG bucks! LOL


But also, we have some complete idiots in GM roles overpaying guys by a HUGE
amount, and those guys still have jobs.... Kyler Murray is an obvious one, and, sorry,
but Aaron Rodgers is not worth 1/4 of the entire team's salary cap, same with that
Deshaun Watson loser.... Dak, Russell, Matt Ryan.... Bakhtiari, JC Jackson...

There is not a sport today that is NOT a business.

 

The owners do very well. Thank you very much. The only thing that bites them are death taxes, but they're dead, so what.

You said it was not a sport, that it's just a business, but it's both.
Like I said above, some players treat it as a business first and sport second, and
with others those are equal.

Also, not every state has a 'death tax', I know KS, CO, WY, SD, MO don't, Iowa does,
because I am trying to get my State Senator to repeal it and am citing the surrounding states
as examples. I doubt it gets repealed here.

And OF COURSE every owner gets rich - name me a large corporation where the CEO
is not vastly overpaid... Warren Buffet makes $100,000 a year - but he owns most of the
stock, so is he underpaid?

 

Without the owners, there would not be a NFL.

By death taxes, I meant the Federal estate tax.

The Philadelphia Eagles are owned by a great citizen, generous supporter of multiple charities, and more than happy to pay his fair share of taxes he owes. You could look it up.

Then I suppose you should have specified Federal estate taxes, but I'm
also pretty sure they have found loopholes for those, too.

 

Hard to do when you have billions in other assets and the public spotlight is on you.

I'd love to root for Houston.... I grew up an Oilers fan with a Warren Moon jersey and I've never really felt like I had a team since.

There have been super-bad calls and strings of bad calls in nearly every game.
I'm no KC apologist, but even KC has been scrooed in games, it all evens out,
it's too bad it happened in a playoff game, I have to think that officiating crew
won't be calling playoff games for awhile...

He had Brady, Mahomes, Elway, Peyton and Marino.

Mahomes isn't there yet, Elway took 15 years to get there, I have always thought Peyton is a GREAT leader,
but he's not Top-5 (but he's a marketing genius), and Marino at #5 sounds about right.

It depends on how you judge them: If it's SB's, then Bradshaw should be on the list, as should Aikman, what about Jim Kelly?

When you look at the NFL TODAY - meaning: rule changes, how the game has changed, Michael Vick in his prime was magical.

The jury is still out on Mahomes - should not be on the list YET, I want to see how he does in the next few years
after the Chiefs' roster changes a few times, like Elway's did.

It's a shame you are judged by SB wins, there are a bunch of guys that never won one that were great.

And Montana is #2.

(At least Rodgers is not in his top-5...)

I loved Houston back in the Ken Houston/Kenny Burrough/Billy 'White Shoes' Johnson days, and then
they got Earl, Brazile and a few others, always thought Pastorini was terribly underrated, poor guy got
killed just like Archie Manning and Fran Tarkenton did back then...

 

I was responding to TheBigEasy saying "Would have loved to see him get an 8th ring… had a shot last year too"

 

I'll go one further: Would Brady be rated as the GOAT by so many if he had just one SB win, or NO SB wins?
As I said, it's a shame ones' greatness is judged by SB wins, and this 'rule' ONLY seems to apply to QB's.

There is a guy that has 5 SB rings, he's not even discussed as an all-time great in the NFL.

 

Touch football all-star game is harbinger of NFL future. Will happen in 20 yrs. NBA style load management will come onboard in few yrs to set the tone

 

Don't know anything about the NBA...what is 'load management'? Are there metrics for this, or just 'feelings'?

 

I would not say Brady is the most gifted at the position. But longevity matters. Making smart, big plays in the clutch moments matters. To me, yes he does fit the “greatest of all time” title. Because anyone else you would consider hasn’t accomplished nearly as much. I’d put Joe Montana at #2.

His stats and SB wins will be difficult for any player to match. The run and guy guys that are “better” at the position don’t last as long. If Mahomes gets beat by Philly, who knows if their team can hold together long enough to even get back? Burrow, Allen, and others aren’t going away.

 

load management was started by spurs few years ago. idea is players need extra rest by taking games off during the season in order to avoid injury. guess what result is? yup, injuries went way up since players started taking days off.

and think of fans. my sil went to nets game just to see lebron but lebron took game off. got to see him sitting on bench.
