Thanks. I think I might be beginning to see why it didn't sell...

One of the potential bidders went to view it and helpfully posted the undeclared issues. Lesson learned there - always go to view rather than bid solely on the basis of the description.

Sage advice but I don’t think that happens anymore in the US which does seem funny.

Not sure how I managed to reply and appear to be part of original quote.
My IT skills are clearly defective.

Eric- You can get anywhere in England in about 2 hours. Not quite the same here in the States.

Could pay for someone local to inspect? Wouldn't even need to be a specialist to uncover the kinds of issues this car had, and could give anyone a 550-specific check list.

Agreed. Not to sidetrack this thread....but regarding travel in Europe....it really is amazing how much beauty and art and architecture you can see in a compressed period of time via train and since the mid-2000's "low cost air providers".

I did the 4th semester of my MBA in France (Rennes) and we only had class M-Th and many many thursday nights I was on the TGV to Paris and then all over the continent thereafter (this was back in 1999).

    Lots of subsequent trips.

One of my favorite european road trips was with my wife in Portugal. We flew into Porto and did a one way rental car and over several days drove the coast, ending in Faro and then flew from there to Marrakesh. LOVE the people and sights and food of Portugal. Seems like very few American's have discovered that area.

One fond/funny memory was taking my 2 younger brothers on a whirlwind trip to many countries in 10 days and we flew into Barcelona (can't remember which airport) and took another airline for the next flight some 30-ish hours later...hadn't realized it was a different airport (Barcelona having 3)....so we rented a car at Hertz (I think this was 2004?) and we were "haulin the mail".....one brother asked....how fast are we going????we are going to jail if we get stopped!....I replied "that at least we would have a place to sleep if we missed our flight!..... I didn't look down to check as the little car felt like it was going to shake apart.....but I had the pedal to the metal like we were in Germany instead of Spain!

    #goodtimes

I've been very fortunate with the breadth of travel i've done but I still need to get to Istanbul and Greece.

Oh and "post covid" we should revive that Oktoberfest FerrariChat thread!

EDIT - photo attached. Younger brother Kirk on the right. #Meow!

Eric- All total I lived 14 years in Europe including Norway, Turkey (pretty European in the 60s), England and Germany. Prettiest girls were in Norway, best beer was in Germany (surprise), best gnocchi was in Italy (surprise again), best seafood was in Greece, and best friends were made in England. My father was air force, too.

Prettiest views were on the Isle of Capris, where they thought I was a captain in the navy instead of the air force.

That 550 has appeared in Deal Now for £85,500. No change to description, no previous comments. Given the faults and concerns that were highlighted, that seems a bit underhand.

Just to close this out, it went for £73,584 (£78,735 with CC fees) which seems fair given the uncertainties.

Very pretty and the roll bar is not available on A spec cars. Canada and its 15 year import rule have a big advantage on the US and our 25 year rule. You guys get first pick. Argento looks great on Maranellos.

I must say I like that we have the head start...because after 25 years the values go bananas.

Yes will definitely be removing it. I don't mind factory shields but I think the 550/575 looks better without them.

Fantastic spec, bellissima! Now that manual conversions are more common in N America, you have the option to do that as well, if you're into that kind pf driving experience. Congrats on your score!

I've thought about it...we'll see when it's here. I have lived with a manual 550 for 6-7 years now. Just sold it...car was dialled in. Fiammenghi headers and exhaust (full system), deltavee shocks, etc. Looking forward to the comparison...I've driven an F1 575 before but not very far and it was base with no FHP/modulars/race seats etc.

Didn’t realize you sold your 550 - do you know if it stayed in Canada?

It is going to Switzerland. I have some sellers remorse...but it's going to a good home. The new owner also has a 575M.
