That's a serious problem I see nowadays with artists and designers. Nobody will give constructive criticism or critiques for fear of being called a "hater". Even when they do they are ignored or banned. People surround themselves with yes men and block out what they don't want to hear. Social media has raised a bunch of sensitive, incompetent hacks.
Yes, and not only that, but every day the web is filled with all manner of ‘designs’ created with Photoshop. Everyone with PS is suddenly a designer these days. I love that there is so much enthusiasm and passion around designing things, but so much of what I see is just customizing with very little design creativity/taste/good judgement. But progress marches on. I should also add, that the rendering skill set is higher than it’s ever been. So many can render the shiniest surfaces known to man. However just being able to render shiny sheetmetal isn’t everything.
A beautiful job of rendering sh*t. Even at ACCD there were cases of the best rendering ability did not match up to the best at underlying design.
Why do people make such ugly things when they can make something beautiful? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some automotive cartoons from the Detroit newspaper over the years. Some are pretty good. The Chrysler Design one is one of my faves. http://www.deansgarage.com/guindons-detroit/
thoughts on this fan? i think it could have been intergrated more elegantly. it looks like a weekend project for a tv reality show.

The Merc probably has the most work in it; the '55 Chevy is very appealing in that color combination.
Certainly don't want to belittle the insane amounts of skilled labor (not to mention $$$$$) that went into these cars.......but......to me a pretty boring set of cars, esp compared to past years.......pretty ho hum....... But if you were going to give me one, I'd go find another choice......
1.5 Corvairs with '63 Pontiac headlights...This looks to be a private effort, in which case, not bad!
To me the only car that should be in this group is the '50 Merc. I thought the Ridler was for custom cars? These are mostly restomods .Seems like Ridler has been reduced completely to biggest cheque wins although it's been headed that way for quite awhile regardless.
I'm going to have to agree. I've been going to Autorama for 60 yrs. While these 8 are cool cars, the direction has changed course to my eye. IMO,these cars to me have missed the point. I'm old and recognize that the world has changed, but while I like these 8, I believe they missed the mark.
Of the choices, this probably made the most sense. The coveted Autorama - World of Wheels - Cavalcade of Customs Detroit Autorama Ridler award is presented to Luigi Deriggi of Toms River, New Jersey for his ’50 Mercury custom. Not only does he receive the well-known Ridler trophy (which his car will be the “topper” for next year) but also a check for $10,000. Built by Pro-Comp Custom out of New Jersey they are no strangers to building both amazing hot rods and major award-winning rides. - The chopped custom ’50 Merc rides on an @ArtMorrisonChassis that features an Air-Ride suspension, a fully polished and chromed @Wintersquickchange rearend, and one-off wheels by Chris Boyd. The Ridler winning ’50 Merc is painted in a brilliant candy Root Beer paint over a chopped top. Other specialty touches include a body that features custom modern-era headlights and taillights, a fabricated one-off grille along with custom built and tucked front and rear bumpers.
