Serial number 58149, sold to the Rolling Stones tour manager, not Jagger himself. Driven by more than one rock star too.

The onward sale of that car was the first time I became aware of the 288, it was reported in the British papers at the time.

Be interesting to know where it is these days.

    Stumbled across this

Has the story been covered on here yet as to why it is no longer recognised as a genuine example? or is the vid misleading about the actual car shown?

When this sold in 2016 for 6 Plus USD everyone said it was a crazy price , now they are looking at 8.5 plus.. seems the buyer was 100% right.. everyone else was wrong.. buy what you like and buy the best.. nothing has changed in my 30 years of collecting. Watch this space it could be a NWR

Not sure I would, don’t get me wrong I think they are wrong and it takes the car away from how she came out of the factory, but having a GTO changed again is another question to explain.. the more you have to explain, the less desirable the car becomes.. this is in my option

Still the best-looking street car Ferrari ever made :)

The stance, the proportions, the transition of curves to angles ... never been done better. And based on what i've seen from Ferrari lately, not likely to be bested anytime soon.

Is the original 288 GTO speedometer available with the car?

    Agreed!

Based on previous posts, rather than worrying about the "original 288 GTO speedometer", wouldn't the simple solution be to replace the speedometer face, like was commonly done when the car was federalized? That is, if someone was interested in modifying the car back to how it left Maranello.

Or in the case of 57495, are you saying the entire unit was replaced, rather than just the face?

I think the unit was replaced, as you can see from images posted by msn, what exists in the car is not simply a different 288 GTO MPH fascia, but the complete fascia and needle from a USA-spec MPH 328 speedometer. Given that this car is thought to be a delivery miles example with huge value attached to it for that reason alone, we should worry about the original 288 GTO KPH speedometer.

if anyone wants a real, perfect and original 288 GTO tool kit and not a "put together pile of rubbish" please drop me a line.

My thread on tool kits, goes into detail on what a correct 288GTO tool kit should be.....

Great thread. Fortunate to have a correct one also.

Why RM would auction that as a GTO toolkit is puzzling. The people bidding - wow.

After careful consideration I would say there is some uneducated money being spent fast & furious out there, and not just for tools.

Wasn't this from several years ago? The Eddie Irvine 288 GTO stolen and found in a few days.
