Just had a look to see where Greg’s been before he came to Adelaide. Gee, he gets around! What do you suppose he’s doing? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The factory sits on the approach to runway 26 at Essendon. It's usually pretty quiet, just the odd BTC, Steve or light plane coming in. This morning, that gorgeous DC-3 that's hangered there flew over. There's something incredibly romantic about those twin Pratt and Whitney radials thrumming away.
Myself and a couple of others were offered the Ansett DC3 20 odd years ago it was cheap 150k or close too. The killer is the fuel it drinks .
As with any aircraft it’s not the fuel bill that’ll kill you (high as it may be), it’s the maintenance bill and setting aside money for engine overhauls etc. For most aircraft fuel is around a quarter of the total hourly running costs (as Greg would know).
Ansett aircraft would have worked as she was all fresh, then comes the storage, dealing with pilots, and fuel burn. The idea was to have it for airshows (tax deduction as a working public museum ) Just all too hard . A friend who was the last guy to be employed by the liquidators (Ansett's head engineer ) suggested it.
Not a bad effort one owner till recent times .even then you could say its still an Ansett aircraft (historic group
So, I dealt with an aircraft today and didn’t immediately recognize its type. I looked it up on our system and this is the reference photo we had on file. It’s a Piaggio P180 Avanti, complete with shields and all!! very smart looking thing I might add…. Image Unavailable, Please Login
