The function of fuel in a ICE is to explode in the cylinders to push the pistons down and make an engine run.
I agree that being able to adjust the mixture to provide side effects beneficial to reliability is a good thing. I have added an extra fuel table on one of my cars to keep EGT down when doing sustained high speed runs on the Autobahn, as ~180 HP/L on a turbocharged engine generates a lot of heat.

My point is that using what an ECU can offer to modify artificially superficial aspects of an engine such as the exhaust note is ridiculous and suggests that OEMs are running out of ideas to make their cars more interesting than they actually are, such as the Huracan example I used earlier.

The car in the video below doesn't waste fuel on the overrun through pops and crackles. It does not need to.

    /rant over

Not criticising what you do Trev as it is great to have an asset like you who offers tunes to suit Fabio's excellent exhaust. I asked already earlier in this thread but you do not do tunes for 550s?

So I have been on email all day with Fabio and based on my wishes he has recommended the following setup.

    - stock manifolds
    - secondary cats bypass pipes (i have not in my website but i can do it)
    - centre double h-pipes
    - rear valved mufflers
    - kit for manual bypass opening.

With this set up you will have not the high pitch but sound will be dry, clear and loud at bypass opened with burble during gas release.

By the way I also found this old video of my 550 after I put some sort of exhaust on it.

I totally can’t remember what it was….. no doubt I would have written something up here…. So I will go back and try and find out.

May the Horse be with you

    Without cats ?

Much too loud in my opinion.

    Just amazing.
sounds fantastic and just the way a pure V12 should. I pretty much have the same setup but with Nouvalari race pipes so a bit louder. You'll love it in 4-5 gear when she screams.
    Enjoy her in good health.

The stock manifolds keep the noise down as will the valved exhaust.

I think this setup is similar to what I used to have on my 550.

Daniel- You know those are the primary cats, not the secondary cats. Our 575s and 599s have pre-cats and primary cats, regardless of the "secondary cat" marketing selling cat bypass pipes. With the 6-1 headers, we (and the GTOs) only have primary cats.

Terry, i forgot the pre cats in the 575, the different layout to the 550.
So the noise is on an acceptable level.

This setup in a 550 is much too loud, not in a 575.

Daniel- Affirmative, the precats usually tone everything down. When I put unvalved Novitec Supersports with 90 mm tailpipes (stock is about 72 mm) on my 575M, however, still with precats and cats, the noise was enough to wake the dead.

Since i had the 6-1 in my 599, i learned that good sound has nothing to do with loud.
For me and for german law, Fabios 599 6-1 headers with cats were on a noise level which was not acceptable.
With the special absorbation silencers after the 6-1 cats, he made for me, the car was absolute perfect in sound and loudness.

    The 550 with my setup
    6-1 headers
    cats
    Fuchs X pipe
    Fuchs mufflers without valves
is loud when you want it, but you can drive the car very silent, just a thing how you kick the throttle.
This was not possible with the 599 before i got the small absorbation silencers.

With a 550 and a full set up (including headers) will the car have a bad smell by running too rich when you choose to go - without the cats?

That’s what we have heard….niftyfivefifty was catless and Chris notes the cats made it better when he bought/installed and did other tweaks upon his acquisition.

This is quite interesting Daniel. Since you have been so kind to let me visit you and to have a test drive with your 550, I agree that the good sound is about the sound picture and not the loudness. The 599 has a larger engine block so it can make more sound, but I have experienced that the X-pipe like on your 550 actually silence the exhaust more than your 599 system with a double H-pipe. I find your 550 setup very very good in terms of sound. Maybe one could fit the small silencers also to the 550 to keep the sound quality, but to still make it rather "silent" (far from normal car silent)....?

Erik, the 550 is ok with the noise level, because you can drive her silent when you want.

With the 599 it wasn't possible and without the small silencers it was much too loud.

Hope you visit me in 2023 ?

I agree 100%. Especially when you hear a Mercedes AMG sedan, which to me is 99% a normal car which looks like something a bank robbery guy would like. Same like 4.000 dollar Civics and now most of the new sports cars too.... I don't get it. This is exactly why our old V12 cars are more sober and refined and this is something I really like with them. Funny that a 575 cracks and burbles more than a 550 when it has a more modern engine...

Yes only time can tell... We can have a ride together. You take the 550 and I borrow you 812 HAHA :) I definately want to tour Europe more. Such a joy. I have a black 1990 Masersti 228i with a fantastic cream interior and a seized engine, bought by me last year, but the engine have been standing with water in the left bank of cylinders for about 12 years! So now, we are looking into finding a replacement engine and get the car up and running again. I plan to keep this car in Milano and rent it out cheap to car nuts like myself who can take good care of it and enjoy the area to compensate for the extra expences this project gives. So it might be this car which will have a run down Europe this summer. Then I can fly for 50 euro directly from Oslo to Malpensa Airport north of Milan and drive in my favourit area at any time and the 228i has huge and ultra comfortable rear seats! So it can take four adults and lots of luggage. Good thing is that I can drive my 550 back home without adding 5000 kms. for every trip down south and the Maserati is more easy to let others drive. I NEVER let ANYONE drive the 550 except myself. :) Hope to see you soon amigo.

He always had the listing for them, at least for the last 14 months. Just havent seen anyone who has gotten his 6-1 for any 456 model.

Now fuel pump supports... those were perfect!

Does F have an option to discreetly hide the button to open and close the rear F mufflers with the bypass valves? Perhaps a remote exists as well without the need for a button.

Affirmative, I have Fabio's bypass kit with just a small remote. The other option is to use the blank switch location (Euro rear fog lamps) for a real switch.

Both of the sticky companys offer a switch solution. Personally, the last thing I wanted was to get another fob on the keychain (although you can minimize the number of fobs using gobbles all in one….)

Stickynomore has a switch relabel service that’s quite cheap. All you need is a 2 position switch (cheapest are repurposing a map light as the factory sport switch is now quite pricey). I am not sure if they light up or how they light up in comparison to the other switches when relabeled

I cannot link the other/light up one; note this is an all in one, and you do not need a donor switch: https://store.**********.com/products/custom-ferrari-2-position-exhaust-switch

it’s a simple wiring job to connect to either Fabio’s (or in my case Forza) controller
