Belt line molding removal.

    I fear damaging the belt line molding as I am not sure how it is secured. So, please, how is that molding removed ?

    Which molding are you referring to? I do not know that the Dino has any 'belt line' molding so perhaps the naming is confusing us. Maybe a photo or a better description and we'll be happy to help

    To be more precise : The beltline molding I referred to is now properly spelled with one not two words. The expression beltline molding refers to a metal or synthetic material. It is called beltline because that’s approximately where it is located on the doors - beltline high.

    On the Dino GT the part is chromed metal. It is positioned on top of the door just next to the glass but not touching glass. It’s not the fiber sweep against the glass.

    You will notice on your Dino that the chrome strip shows no screws or rivets and is secured flush on the alloy or later on the steel.

    Prying seems to be almost intuitive but not close enough; that’s what I fear doing. Is it secured from the bottom by welds or what ?

    First time I ever hear that Belt line expression. Why not take a picture - then you avoid the guessing game and pictures says more than a thousand words. Anyhow, fittings on top of Ferrari doors in belt line height normally is riveted to the door on the inside. That means you need to dismantle the door, remove the glass and drill out the rivets.

    You have to remove the door panels and the glass, along with the vent frame. it's a slightly different process coupe versus spyder. That piece is riveted onto the door frame, the felt piece is also attached to the piece usually with small screws.

    As Jon and Peter have already said removal of this trim requires a LOT of disassembly. Dino door assembly is one of the most time consuming parts of working on a Dino so prepare for a job that will take many solid days of work to do.

    If the discussed item is aforementioned upper door edge (outer) trim molding shown in post #6, aren’t they usually polished stainless rather than chromed steel ?

    I think the earlier Dinos were chromed brass and the later were stainless.

    I just assumed (yeah, I know), since they were manufactured by Scaglietti at the same time with 365 GTB/4s and all of them I’ve ever encountered/seen have been stainless.

    Exactly what I thought. I appreciate the confirmation. Thank you. By the way, a picture being worth a thousand words is as reliable as saying that truth lies somewhere in the middle of two opposing opinions. Or that there are two sides to every story - I guess that’s Yin Yang stuff.

    Is this 246 gt or 246 gts?
    The gts seems easier to replace these
