I have the WIRE (Wireless Charger Smartphone - $1,687) optioned on my 2022 Roma but doesn't work as expected. With the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it will only detect and charge in one position; when the bottom of phone is pointing forward and pushed all the way back in the charging cavity. Otherwise, it will give the error message "foreign object detected..." which also occurs if it slides forward when braking. Happens with or without an Apple MagSafe case except that it grips in position better with the case. Thinking this might be related to MagSafe ring interfering, I tried with an iPhone Xs Max (wireless charging but not MagSafe) and same behaviour. This somewht defeats the purpose when one could plug in with a USB Lightning cable.

I'm wondering if mine is a defective factory installation. Does anyone else have experience with this WIRE option?

Hey buddy, the dealer had a demo with the wireless charger option and it hardly worked, was a pain anytime I tried to use it. That's why I skipped on the use less expensive option.

Infotainment software was updated during annual service last December and wireless charging now works with iPhone Xs Max. Speculating that this may have something to do with the charging current threshold. It still does not work properly with my iPhone 13 Pro Max, and reportedly not with the iPhone 13 or 14 Pro Max either.

It works with the iPhone 12 and Samsung s22 from which we can probably conclude that the issue is with the larger iPhones. However, even with the smaller phones, it’s finicky with position on the charging mat. This leads me to believe that it’s related to the location of the charging ring under the mat relative to the phone. Will try investigating with AirPods case when I have time.

Kudos to my service advisor who investigated this when car was in for service and it has to be said they got no help from FNA. So we are stuck with an option that’s not fit for function.

Just picked up my Roma -- I'm getting the same error on an iphone 12 pro max. Bummer. I do think this is a standard option now at least...

Ferrari made wireless charging and wireless CarPlay standard with a corresponding increase in base price[emoji51] like with the 296 GTB/S. They also got it to work properly on the 296 so it’s frustrating that they are just not bothering to fix it for the Roma.

It was added for 2023. You should be paying the same amount for the feature as someone else who did not add it as the base price of the car was increased.

@zly512, did you also opt for CarPlay (ACPL)?

I can confirm it's not working properly also on my 23 Roma with iPhone 14 pro max. With or without case. It's just unbelievable

This was investigated during my recent annual maintenance, which found that the charging current measured was lower than in other WIRE equipped Romas and 296s. Wireless charging module was replaced and is now able to charge an iPhone 14 Pro Max, implying a defective factory-installed unit. I speculate on the possibility of a faulty batch of wireless chargers supplied. However, the AD notes that the phone has to lie as flat as possible on the mat; a phone case and/or the protruding camera lenses of the newer iPhones may lift it sufficiently to limit charging field coupling. I had no issues with the iPhone 14 Pro Max with MagSafe case.

Noteworthy praise for FNA and the AD working jointly to understand and resolve this issue at long last:)

Thanks for reporting back. I have my Roma in for service for a couple of unrelated issues and asked them to look into the wireless charger that never worked. I had read somewhere else on the forum of someone recently taking delivery of a Roma with a working wireless charger. Figured it was worth a shot to ask. Your report gives me a little more hope.

Now that FNA has the data points from troubleshooting my car, it would definitely be worthwhile asking your AD to look into it in collaboration with them. I also believe it’s an issue that they have become aware of and since resolved it with their supplier.

I’ve noticed quite a dependence on the relationship the SA has with FNA in NJ. My current SA evidently has a good relationship and received very prompt responses. A different SA who tried looking into this last year couldn’t get anywhere with it.

My Roma has a working wireless charger now! Thank you again for providing this information. I passed it along to the technician working my car and they ended up ordering a new wireless charger part. Now I just need to figure out how to get CarPlay to connect wirelessly reliably...

Mine is in for a couple items right now and the charger is one of them. It will charge for a bit, then the error message “foreign object on wireless charger” comes on and it stops charging. It keeps going back and forth. One of the guys in the service dept. put his android phone on the charger and it didn’t generate the error message. I updated my iPhone and it didn’t happen as often but they are working on getting it to work as intended. I haven’t had the CarPlay issue yet - hope I don’t have that issue after they fix this one!

Just got my Roma, the charger does not work. I’ll try pushing it all the way in, maybe it will work until I accelerate the car and it slides back.
