Not a bad start of the season for Lewis… more of the same this year.
Mercedes is toast for at least another year.

50 seconds behind Max who was cruising the last ten laps..
Considering all the cars he drove between 2014 and 2021, difficult to see something positive for him.

You mean, Russell has better tire awareness (strategy) than a 7-time WDC?
A SEVEN TIME WDC should have things figured out after one weekend.

Yes… if i were him, I’d already be looking for my retirement hobby because Mercedes won’t be winning this year and he is getting old…

Although Alonso is older than me and doing fine!

Didnt he also argue to try pit for fresh tyres even though he would have defo lost posistion? a good few times, and i belive it did happen once too ( Singapore, finished last two laps down........ ) , so if you take on board his 3 pits he was allowed, he failed on 1( epicly ), and the 4 ( that i can remember of top of my head ) Merc wall refused as he would have also lost places, that is 5 times he got it wrong out of 7, some times a gamble pays off, Mostly it doesnt, the wall always ( and should ) know more info than the driver. Why do people think staff like Hannah Schmitz get so much credit and paid so much? and critized so much when they get it wrong eg Ferrari and Inaki Rueda, If a window of opportunity opens, its theses peoples job, not the drivers, to spot it and react.

Reflects the number of posts in the Hamilton thread, versus the Stroll thread, here on Fchat ... which is the key metric used, by some on here, as a measure of true greatness

On track, on Fchat ... Lewis Hamilton's most significant rival, now, is Lance Stroll :p:D

I think the proof of Ham's talent (or lack thereof) is if he consistently finishes the year above George this year. 5th ain't bad with that broken car.

Hamilton has nothing left to prove. He is one of the goats. Every driver on the grid will trade their career for Hamilton's. Hamilton doesn't envy any driver career.

Based on the performance of Alonso, Lance should have passed Lewis easily.
But we have Carlos up ahead blocking both of them.........

The argument over the past 5 years is the Lewis has always had the better car. It is pretty obvious that right now, Alonso and Lance have better cars than Lewis, and Lewis ended up slotting in between these (and Carlos).

Another argument is that Russel is heads-and-shoulders better driver than Lewis and just need seat time to get it delivered. Did not happen in Bahrain this year.

So, based solely on the arguments against Lewis in the last couple of years, he did alright in a pig of a car. Chasing the arguably faster Ferrari in the last laps of the race.

The ONLY thing this does is it proves to us the CAR is EVERYTHING, and driver doesn't REALLY matter anymore.
The thing with Hammie is he was in a winning car from day one, and once you get that
CONFIDENCE, you are hard to beat. Once you get rattled, you start losing a little confidence,
you start questioning things, and then, usually, your EGO takes over.....

In some threads on a site I am an Admin in, we discuss 'what ifs', and some of those are 'what if' a certain
driver was in a 'good' car, and also 'what if' a guy was in a car that didn't break down?
Cheever in a Renault had TERRIBLE luck, so did Arnoux and Prost - see 1982, Derek Warwick 1984,
All it takes is 3 DNF's back then and you were toast as far as chasing a WDC.
Just go look at guys from 1978 to about 1988.

Change the year in the URL:

It's an age old debate, what is the contribution of car and what is the affect of the driver? I mean, really the only way you can really know is if everything else is equal, which is very hard. So, what are we left with? Same team two drivers yeah? So that would mean Ham > Bot. Tied with Fernando back in 07'

Bot last year got 10, and ALO 9th

so that leaves 7 drivers left that are theoretically 'better.'

Is Ham is less skillful than George? First half of last year yeah, since then, nope.

If you're saying Max, Lec, Per, Sai or Lan are better? Perhaps, really the only way I can say with some confidence is if they are on the same team.
