F8 Couple curious questions

1. I already took a rock to the windshield in my F8- not cracked but it’s scuffed/chipped/white mark— does anyone know how this is fixed? Can it be filled or polished etc? Any good recommendations in south Florida for a company that can do it?

2. How is everyone’s panel fitment on their F8? I’m a picky MF’er but I notice some panels are not perfect. The plastic bumper fitment to the quarter panel and the side skirt flare fitment to quarter panel seem to have a bit of a wave along the edge on one side…. Normal Ferrari quality or….? The diffuser also has a slight misalignment and one of the screens isn’t as perfect as the other… opinions?

3. The car is one owner with no damage and CPO’ed

I live in Ilinois (don't feel sorry for me ha ha) and Safelite glass is reputable for repairs but I have never had the need to get that done. They are in Florida so that is a place look and you could of course check with Ferrari for sources. As for your fitment issues, I gather you bought it brand new therefore it should be better. Have the body people over at Ferrari, or whoever they recommend to handle warranty work. Might just need to reset some fasteners. I own a 2015 SpecialeA and I must say, it is pretty perfect, even the mirrors are right. On a side note, you made me think of back in the day when I was say 16 years old and my friends would all be around with their cars and we never liked when they would do a walk around on your car. Its funny. We were picky then but with a different perspective. We'd say yeah, your car looks OK from about 10 feet or more......

 

Any window replacement company can treat the rock chip. As far as fitment is concerned, I don't own an F8, but its common for Ferrari panels to get out of alignment like what you are showing. Remember these cars vibrate a lot more than a normal car. As a result, fasteners can move, even fall out. I would not care if were my car because I expect it. Enjoy your car and don't worry about it, though I would get the window fixed. Ferrari windows have thin glass to reduce weight so you'll want that repaired.

 

The glass can be fixed by any glass company, probably drill a small hole, fill it with resin and cure it, it may or may not be noticeable after fix.

My guess is that service was performed, and when the rear diffuser was replaced, it probably was not aligned properly, the mesh is an easy fix. You remove rear diffuser and make adjustment as needed.

Looks like the other mis alignment is the rear bumper, this could also have been removed and not properly aligned when reinstalled. Also easy fix. There are 3 bolts that connect the bumper, see photo, if you're not paying attention when reinstalling alignment could be off.

Ugh at the idea of ‘drill before fill’ on the glass… yikes! But I guess they know what they’re doing.. there’s a safelite right next to my house I just found so I’ll try to go tomorrow- thanks

Wonder what service required a removal of the bumper/diffuser?? I hope that’s all it is anyway

If you are in Florida as it says, there is no deductible for auto glass claims. Call your insurance company and make the claim and they will work with ferrari or satellite. Florida is one of the few states that has no fault auto glass. They won’t raise your rates or charge you anything for auto glass. Just get the glass replaced and not repaired.

 

I found that Satellite and other auto glass companies would not come and repair my 488 glass...said they do not work on cars like Ferrari and so forth. In Florida (I'm in Tampa) there is no deductible for auto glass. I am with State Farm and they took care of with with my local Ferrari dealer (Tampa). Easy simple process. Ft. Lauderdale Ferrari will take care of you they are a great dealer...bought my 488 there.

I've seen panel stuff like that on cars..Ferrari too. While your car is at Ft. Lauderdale Ferrari getting windshield replaced have them look at the panels for an adjustment if possible.

 

Ya I thought about the insurance thing but that seems like such a huge job I am VERY worried about fitment and seals and quality and likely damage to panels and interior during installation etc- and yes, I know the guys at Ft. Lauderdale Ferrari well and would go there… I also understand that with insurance, you’re right, it’s covered without deductible etc however it does go in your record as a small claim and if you ever change insurance companies, they will penalize you at that point as a claim…. Just like they do if you ever use insurance for roadside or towing (small claim under $500 is what they call it)- I have State Farm also

And yes, I notice that safelite does not have Ferrari as an option on their website when trying to make an appointment and doesn’t recognize the VIN either.

I figured and was hoping that a company would just fill it for $50 or $100 and avoid the nightmare of actual replacement, damage, devaluation of the car etc

 

Replacing a windshield is no big deal, done all the time, and will not "devalue" the car (doesn't even go on Carfax, for example)

As to panel gaps, normal, nothing to worry about. Stop obsessing and being OCD over your car. In other words, stop staring at and start driving it more.

 

If you’ve ever seen how a windshield is mounted at the factory with laser accuracy, at-all-costs you want to avoid its replacement. It will never be anything like a factory installation.

 

Yes, I am well aware of the process, and no, even knowing that, it does not dissuade me from changing the windshield if/when necessary.

 

Absolutely avoid it at all costs. Its only original once. Give it some time, you will find a way to avoid that. Wondering, are Ferrari glass panels CODE DATED? I couldn't locate one.

 

Yes, I’m hopeful I can find a repair that just ‘fills and polishes it’ out- I’ll ask the guys at Ferrari. I’m sure I’m not the only one to need a chip repaired and wants to avoid manual replacement

This is good advice for me as I AM actually OCD about my cars (hence my company name of OCDetails and coatings)— but yes, I do obsess about perfection with my cars (not everything else)- I’ll try to overlook certain things…. Or fix them

I went through this on my current 458, no companies are willing to repair a Ferrari windshield. However, mine had 2 cracks per pics. I had my shield replaced through insurance @ my Ferrari dealership w/ same Ferrari shield, through Hagerty. Gap / fit and finish exterior wise, I'd bring it back to dealership and have all re-adjusted. I wonder if the lack of Pininfarina over the years, has started to really impact the quality....

In your detail business have you come across any Ferraris with panel gaps etc that you have noticed? As a one person reference my F cars have not had any noticeable problems

 

Interesting codes on the windshield. Would certainly think that they are date coded and there is nothing better than an original windshield.....if you're lucky enough for that to ever happen Image Unavailable, Please Login

 

That is a bummer that you'd have to bring it back for further service. In my life with cars, getting that windshield right has never been quite that easy even on muscle cars. Now these cars, wow, you need a magician to get it right. I am hoping that I never have to address that problem.

 

Ya for sure I have but it’s the diffuser mostly on mine that makes me think it was once removed for some reason. First owner swears he never did a thing to the car so was wondering if some service to CPO the car at Ferrari would’ve involved removing the diffuser or adjusting in any way

Don't believe those are date codes.

 

Like in the USA, date codes are mandated by regulation. I would think that Ferrari and overseas manufacturers would be held to the same standard although I surely could be mistaken. One thing is certain, there is information in the glass on our Ferrari's that may be of value to know.

Thanks, this is very useful. I will pull the numbers off my glass and see where it leads when compared to the one we see on this thread. Interesting on looking at the glass pics shown to us from Sargpug, that it has the designation of E8 which would indicate that it was certified by the Czech Republic. The other item that looks like // simply states that it is regular thickness. That's about as far as I got right now and I would like to know more. Dates seem to usually be more involved to decipher even when you look at them in many cases.
