I completely agree- And I'm a Rolex hard core fan and have three- but the Panarais just compell me- the history- the completely unique look- the size- etc etc- pleading ignorance here but my main objection is the strap - I just can't deal with the traditional "belt" straps- My Hauers with leather/croc straps all still have a folding buckle- Are there folding buckle options for Panerai? Specifically Luminors?

yes, you can purchase Oem bracelets, and deployants / leather straps or the most common tang buckles for the panerai. I have and enjoy a deployant on my iwc big pilot. I have leather straps on my jlc reverso. I like to stick with the rubber and leather straps on the Panerai. They seem to be the most comfortable for winter and summer use and are fast to swap out. I think half the fun on the Panerai is all the different types of straps and stitching combos.

I’d love to add a steel or titanium bracelet but over time, I don’t think they are as comfortable as all my leather straps. So I think I’ll likely pass on that and just add more leather…

I’m a fan of the rubber bracelet on the Rolex over the steel but the oem versions normally only come on their $40k models which is out of my pay grade.

Thanks Robb- Agree on the Rolex "Oysterflex" - A member has an absolutely sick gold Daytona Oysterflex for sale that if I had too many Blantons one night I would just sell stock and buy!

So hypothetically if I were to purchase a Panerai Luminor at say the shop at Bellagio- Could/would they be able to source/fit a deployment strap? Or would I need to source/fit it aftermarket?

Apologies for "dumb" questions- I'm relatively knowledgeable about Rolex, Tag and Omega but somewhat ignorant about Panerai- not the watches necessarily but the "soft" intangibles such as straps- Sincerely appreciate the guidance and knowledge share- Cheers

    Scott,

there are Panerai (owned) boutiques throughout the US and world who stock all the extra OEM straps and deployants. You will find these in Beverly Hills, San Diego, Miami, Houston, etc. I especially enjoy the original one in Florence across from the Domo…

then there are well stocked dealers like Hyde Park in Denver or Oliver Smith in Scottsdale that will have many watches but may not have as many options on the soft goods. Not sure on Vegas. You can also buy a watch and order OEM accessories on the Panerai website.

most paneristi like the non-oem custom made straps made out of wwii ammo cases that are generally like the belt thickness you described. These can have cool markings or tool marks on them and you can customize buckles, thread colors to almost any preference.

I’m more into the official offerings. But do appreciate the individuality.

A lot of the straps on eBay are copies so I normally drop into a boutique.

my only advice to you is to stay away from the new “Due” line of their thinner luminor’s. They are more for dress and are not really water resistant for swimming / diving. They have also cheapened out out on some of the case backs on their lowest priced watches to get more buyers into the brand at lower price points. I would not buy these really. Stick to the 1950 style luminors, subs, or wire lug radiomir sandwich dial watches with in-house movements, some complications and clean dials… then enjoy.

Skagen today - wanted to try this brand from Denmark out. I like the simplicity, but the clasp is crap. Going to have to try it again with a strap on it, maybe I would like it more.

The clasp is excellent. Perhaps you are not connecting it correctly. It is easy to attempt to close it in the incorrect position.

I have one of these, different model but the band looks identical. It's not at hand so I can show. But the hook goes all the way to the base of the clasp that comes back over

Once it's closed, it never releases unintentionally.

Not actually wearing this, it's slightly too blingy for ordinary wear, so I left it with my sister to wear for a while. Since everyone was showing off their blingy Daytona, I thought I'd join in with this platinum & baguette number ;)

My actual watch this pst couple of weeks was a "track appropriate" TAG Heuer - the Targa Florio.

Not the Fangio edition, but still a very nice watch and one I have otherwise never seen in the wild.

    Beautiful

Did you purchase it that way or was the deployment buckle added afterwards?

My latest daily driver. I really like these Citizen eco-drives. This one went on sale (closeout I think) for a couple hundred bucks so I grabbed it. The winder and start stop stems are placed in such a way as to minimize my issue with most watches, what with me being left handed and all. Even has a nifty little alarm feature.

    Yup,

I don't normally go for blue, but this one really caught my eye, especially at a couple hundred bucks.

It came with 2 straps. Both used the deployant buckle. One is the rubber one shown and the other is black leather with white stitching.
