So could Leclerc have followed Hamilton and take a long second stint with the Mediums? Maybe push his reds one or two laps?
Maybe there was not much advantage.

The drivers are seating so low, that they have to guess where the white lines are.

If the stewards aren't happy with the way Alonso's penalty was served during the pit stop, can't Aston Martin just say 'fine, then take the 5 seconds off his race time instead'? He deserved that podium!

    Hopefully they challenge it.

As mentioned during the post race interview - regs say don't work on the car. Even if the jack accidentally touched the car they didn't work on the car and zero advantage was gained.

Unfortunately, the "smarter" regs become the more idiotically they are enforced.

Boring race with bad decisions re Alonso. Sad to see how bad SF has become. Fred’s got lots of work ahead.

Didn't figure Fred would be penalized twice.

Vigna and Elkan leading the brand gives me absolutely no hope on both sides ( production cars and Motorsport).
    Ferrari isn’t a software brand.

If they could have held on for another lap or two! If a soft can do 20 laps with full tanks, it seems like a medium could do 30 with lower tanks. In hindsight, they would have a couple laps under the safety car as well and not allowed HAM to get ahead... Seemed like a stupid choice.

my guess is that Aston will petition the penalty just due to the fact is was given when Alonso was on the podium

It took the Stewards 30 laps, a finish, and a podium celebration to investigate the rear jackman was touching Alonso's car and to hand him a 10sec penalty thereby losing his 3rd place trophy and position.

    These people are UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Mercedes is more influential than AM so the incompetents do as they are told.

    Alonso deserved the podium.

Did Ferrari have another set of mediums? I think some here are saying they should have used those, but I thought they used them. Just asking. In the end it's just a sad race. Probably a sad season.

Loved Alo’s response re-the penalty…”It doesn’t hurt much, to be honest. I was on the podium, I did the pictures, I took the trophy, I celebrated with the champagne. Now I have apparently three points less; I don’t have 15, I have 12”…

So, I was right. Saw that real time and thought “he can’t do that, can he?”

The Technical team is clueless at the moment, supposedly fixed tyre deg and reliability, this is 2020 all over again, the car is if we are lucky 3rd fastest likely 4th fastest couple in season development and will be 5th or 6th fastest soon. Something is very seriously wrong with the team.

Alonso, now that's a sensible chap who doesn't get unfazed by petty officialdom. o_O

It surprised me Sainz's Medium were not kept longer than Leclerc's Soft... (and, had they kept them longer, they would have replaced them under SC like most others, as an added benefit).

First a 5 s penalty for Alonso because we was positioned a few inches left of the correct starting position (nb: "left", not: "in front of", so no advantage whatsoever), then a second penalty because a mechanic MIGHT have touched his car while serving the first penalty.

What a joke F1 has become in 2023.

And shame on Mercedes F1 for lodging an appeal for the second penalty. They are their usual selves again: appealing when they can't win on track.

For a race that promised so much after quali...it was boring as hell. No real enjoying battles, just DRS battles through and through. Bahrain despite no battle up front was miles more interesting.

Alonso's penalties where such bs...5 sec for being slightly to the right, not a mm gained (And if anything, actually worse for your start as no rubber down there!), then because the mechanic touched it...ok fine, but did it REALLY need a) 31 laps to figure out this happened and b) such a harsh penalty?!

Ferrari just hopeless during the race. I mean ok they lost out a bit in the SC, but neither Ferrari making a dent in the Merc times even. Shameful. I don't want to hear a single moan from the Merc team the entire year anymore.

Bit miffed with Perez now. Great drive, but moaning that Max got fastest lap? Come on dude, you were told with some 10 laps to go you're free to push. Should really count his lucky stripes when he could as he was handed a 14 place advantage over Max who had this weekend in the pocket until reliability got to him. Suck it up man.
