OK, I know leather shrinkage is somewhat common for Ferrari and $11k to recover the dashboard on a 2013 F12 is probably normal? Before I plunk down that kind of money, I thought it might be best to see what others have experienced, or if anyone has any prior experience with "Upholstery Shop & Tops" in Scottsdale - Ferrari's preferred subcontractor (I live in Tucson).

The shrinkage on the binnacle just above the steering wheel is pretty noticeable from outside the car and I was thinking about just tackling this for ~ $2k until the rest of the dash leather falls apart, but the dealer is worried about mismatch being too noticeable although the leather shop didn't think it would be a problem. The finish is Blu Scurro - don't know if that makes it more challenging for some shops to match the rest of the interior?

The dealer pics clearly show the leather is pulling away on the two corners just below the binnacle. I was hoping they could just pull those corners back in, but I guess it doesn't work that way.

Seems about right. Blu Scuro is not an uncommon Ferrari leather, the issue I think you would run into with the partial fix is that the rest of the dash is likely faded a little vs brand new leather.

If that portion can be removed and treated with Leatherique, it could most likely be stretched and reattached.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Yup, I decided not to do anything and see about fixing what's there vs. having the leather replaced. While you can see a clear line of demarcation where the pinnacle leather pulled back, the existing leather otherwise doesn't look particularly faded to me, so I can't help but think it's more of an issue with how those pieces are secured vs. an actual defect in the leather. Having the dealer remove the dash and send them out to a sub seems like it eliminates some repair options. Worse case, is I put off the expense for a while. To be continued.

I am pretty sure the shop will be able to match the leather almost perfectly. I would definitely start with just the binnacle. This is a much less invasive job than taking the whole dash apart. If it aint broken dont touch it.

I had the leather replaced on my binacle and it was $400 from an upholstery shop, but I have black dash. I'm thinking they can find leather to be close to your original blue and you won't notice. Even if you get it from the factory it won't be exact because yours has faded and there are slight variations in dye lots I believe.

What steps can you do to keep the leather from pulling like this? Leather treatments?
    Thanks!

I recently had my leather in the 458 repaired. Taking off the binnacle, if its like the 458 is not difficult. The upholstery guy just stretched it back into shape and re-glued. Looks perfect. Not rocket science. I believe the whole dash, including binnacle was $3000. Just stretched back and new adhesive applied. No need for new leather in my case. He also redid the headliner as it had parts that lost the adhesive. There is a small chance that when they remove the dash, not the binnacle, that their hand could come loose while pulling the dash out and break the windshield. Ferrari glass is very thin.

I had the leather on the binnacle of my 2014 Ferrari F12 repaired. Exact same issue. The leather could not be stretched and had to be replaced. I had a guy I shipped it to in California who repaired it for I believe 8 hundred. He uses OEM leather. It matches nearly perfectly. I believe I posted pictures on here about it. I could probably find them if helpful.

To close the loop on the original post, a local shop in Tucson managed to stretch and staple/glue the original leather back in place for $200. I've generally been pretty happy with the service at Ferrari Scottsdale, but this experience tells you that leather repair just isn't their cup of tea. It definitely paid to pause and look for other options.

The attached pic leaves a lot to be desired, but it's pretty clear you can no longer see the white underlayer poking out or the discolored band where the leather pulled back. Now I've got enough left over to think about that aftermarket exhaust I've been wanting (hope my wife doesn't read this :) )

So ridiculous that we have to deal with this issue and sticky buttons. Haven’t heard about these issues with other Manufacturers.

Bruce, looks like you are in the extremely hot and dry AZ climate as well. Maybe consider adding a mini split and insulating your garage door if you haven't already done so. It will definitely help with the preservation of these cars. I was about 4-5k all in and my garage stays at 68° and 40-45% humidity. There's no noticeable difference to my electric expense either.

Well worth the investment considering the possible expenses of drying leather/rubber/seals, etc. This should also prevent stickies and adhesive from weakening due to heat.

We have a 90 Testarossa with perfect interior leather. We live in Texas and in summer the garage gets smoking hot. That does not cause the leather damage. Sun does.

Buy a reflective windshield cover and use it anytime the car is parked outside. No matter the weather. Its so easy yet so few do it. We have recovered a lot of dashes. It is a self inflicted wound.

Really? This happens to a lot of cars with leather dashes... Granted, that's not a lot in today's market. Mercedes used to do that a lot as well, now they switched to some fake leather for their dashes (on upper trims/models). Base models are all plastic. And sticky buttons are very common. A lot of cars have the soft coating that degrades over time. Im not finding excuses for Ferrari, I absolutely believe they should fix their ****. Im just saying it's not only a Ferrari issue.

My daily is a Lexus LS460. While I have not had a problem, go on ClubLexus.com and read about their dash and door panel shrinkage/stickies. And we're talking about arguably the most reliable car you can buy.

Exactly! Same on MBworld forum. Lots of older Mercedes had a leather dash (think W140 or thereabout) and they are all experiencing the same issue... Same comments from the members as well! We should not see that at this price point etc. And I totally agree! I guess that's why MB moved to Artico (artificial Cow...) for their "leather" dashes (and probably to save money as well).

Just had my binnacle leather (black) recovered and the leather on the part above the vents re-fixed.
Car comes back tomorrow so will let you know of the results and post pictures.
£350 for leather work and materials, £175 for removal/refit of the parts.
    Arranged through local Ferrari dealer.
