Is there any way to get seats recovered cheaply? Could a shop re-create the original leather if I gave them the seats? Local interior places are quoting me 6-10k which just doesn't seem right... Has anyone had success doing something different? Any recommendations in the CT, NY try-state area?
There are places online that sell replacement seat covers. Not sure the cost, but I don't think it would be 6-10k.
I used TopsOnLine in California. Pre-made seat covers with several options for the back panels. Obviously, you will also have to pay for labor. Once your seats are installed, you will notice your door panels (and console if leather covered) may not match or look "old". Then to have to buy a hide (also available from TopsOn Line) to cover the door panel, also more labor costs. Note that the door panels also have piping between the door panel and metal. This is usually fabricated by the upholsterer with leather from the hide.
A good upholsterer should be able to sew new hides from the original pattern seats. These Alfa Montreal seats were reskinned a few years ago, at that time it was $1k a seat with my hides. Check your local upholsterer. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
High quality work is expensive. If you are willing to give ground on really good work the price goes down quickly. Straight seams, even pleats, straight edge beads and wrinkle free corners and curves takes time. Time is money. If you can buy high quality upholstery kit and have it installed by someone really good it can be done for less because a kit is done several at a time so it is not a custom one off. What car is it for?
One thing you might do, is if your seats aren't too bad, meaning just some rips and wrinkles, you might try having someone just recondition them. That'd cost hundreds, not thousands, and they'd look great, though you might have to redo them every three years or so, depending on wear and tear. As far as new hides, your cost range is really about right. You could get a new set from Nick's Forza or ReOriginals for $3-4k,, but then you'd have to have someone install them. Bear in mind though, that if you did that, if you have any shade of tan or brown, they won't exactly match your interior - so you'll have to get one of those reconditioning guys to re-dye your existing interior to match at extra cost. I got a new set for my 88 328GTS from ReOriginals, and he was able to get them made with the Daytona chairs and flares motif and they came out absolutely fantastic. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I used GAHH seat covers for my 83QV and the fit and appearance was excellent considering the price and I even installed the covers myself. Best, Peter
Another vote for GAHH. I bought their kit and handed it, and the loose seats / door panels, to a local trimmer for refoaming and installation. I'm well pleased. GAHH also did the black piping in their kit for me upon my request. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Those look good. Your shop did a good job fitting them. No wrinkles, the piping is straight. To the OP. I would talk to both companies. They both make good products.
Just had my 2 seats redone on the 328. Black and done perfectly. Cost me $5,000 for 2 chairs. Nothing is cheap anymore Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cavallino Rampante on the headrest is one tricky thing to reproduce when doing reupholstering. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Yes, GAHH did that for me (see Post no. 11 above). (Looking at this stand-alone picture with fresh eyes again, I observe that this picture makes the horse look a bit off-center. But I assure you that it is correctly aligned once installed) Image Unavailable, Please Login
If your in the tri-state, check out Bradan. He did my seats & sides & carpets in Tan '83QV GTB They are excellent. There should be pics in the archives. Maybe 7-10 years ago. I researched GAHH. I was not impressed and did not get good feedback from those who used them. Granted, those posts aboved like what they got.
Leatherique can repair any holes. cracks or old leather and complete new dye and you have extra dye for future renew about $500 DIY
Sounds reasonable.. i’m in so cal. I want my 78 308 seats redone. I used Fernando at prestige in NHollywood for my 365 Gtc4 a few years back. Who did the work? PM if you are more comfortable Dave Bone
I have used them several times and have referred many. Not a single negative issue in those experiences.
GAHH is only good for just carpet kits and not leather work... if you need leather work IMO, the best bet is find a upholstery shop with a good reputation with Ferraris... It won't be cheap!!!!
What year did you use GAHH. I bought seat kit, center console, door panels from them 2 years ago, for an 83QV. The experience was really bad. All dimensions problematic. No straight seam lines. Left and right sides of centerline of seats not equal. They out sourced the cavallino. The place that did it: wrong size, wrong angle, off center, visible tool outline. Fought with them about everything. Ended up making my own cavallino heat tool. And it's not like they are supper cheap to compensate for all this poor quality. Don't use Tops on Line either. Many years ago they were great but like GAHH they have lost the people they used to have. They just re-sell GAHH kits now, but they don't tell you that unless you ask. I have Crema too, btw. Shows dirt the most of all the interior color options, but I think it looks the best for my blu chairo exterior.
