And Hamilton is still a 7 time WDC and you guys are still "right" about whatever was "glaringly obvious" to your little group.

Weak response. It was the team first and the car second. Driver was a distant third. #2 Nico Rosberg bested LH straight up for an actual WDC, and he's nobody's GOAT. George is just dunking on LH now.

    Uh...weak response.
Hamilton is still a 7 time WDC
    Nico is not.
George is not (but might become a WDC or 2)
In the end, you can pound the pulpit all you want and it doesn't change the facts. Hamilton has won more GP's, more poles, and is a 7 time champion. Cherry picking this or that to try to prove a point while ignoring his career's body of work is the ultimate weak response. Colin Cowherd did it last week regarding Michael Jordan. And it was just as weak.
NO ONE is doubting the greatness of the M-B's, just like NO ONE doubted the Ferrari's of MS's time, or the Red Bulls of Vettel's time, or the Red Bulls of Max's time, or the McLarens of Prost/Senna's time...ETC...

You guys keep saying that your complaint is with Lewis' fans (them declaring him GOAT), but for the life of me, I haven't read ANYONE in this thread declaring him GOAT (I'm sure someone has in the 256 pages but it's not common). Are you really this bent over the Lewis fans that don't watch F1, know nothing about F1, surely have never heard of FerrariChat and surely don't post here and only love Lewis for his looks or politics or whatever...that they read in People magazine?

    One race… a season? No

What did Schumacher do in 96? He smashed people
At Barcelona because he was the best but over a season? No chance
Heck 97 is a miracle he went to the last race toe to toe with Villeneuve. I love Jacques but not in the same league as Michael

Well, the rain leveled the field....mother nature has a sense of bringing out the talents of a driver regardless of the placement in the field of the car on a dry track.....no?

Yes but my point is over a 22 race season, I think max is the best driver but I don’t think he is winning it in a Mercedes and stroll wins it in a Red Bull…
I mean it was always the case…
Look at 1994 to 04. MS should have had 10 titles… he was that much better than anyone!

Switch Max to MB and Stroll to RB and your likely WDC is Perez, Max, or Alonso. In that order, arguably. Just IMHO.

Jacques was in the same league as Michael in 1996 and 1997; after that, his competitivity faded, eroded by indifferent cars, bad career choices, etc..
But going back to 1996 and 1997, he was more than good, he was great. Trouble is, it didn't last.
Another potential that never fully blossomed.

I personally don't think JV was ever any good. He might be the worst champion of all time as a matter of fact.

The 96-97 Williams were exceptionally good, the best car on the grid by far. Was the best car in 94 and 95 too, but their driver line up was rubbish. Damon Hill is another among the worst champions, and for JV to beat him, not that impressive IMO. Damon Hill was a solid 1 second a lap slower than Senna in 94. That's insane. There is no questioning Senna's speed, but even a below average driver can be within half a second of a great driver.

They both had their moments, but their talents were limited from what I could see.

It takes a good amount of talent to compete and win and even to compete at the level Damon did and or Bottas of late. We belittle people here in a ridiculous manner.

We have no idea at all what they actually feel or face. Only what we read or are told by someone who knows a friend of a cousin and an uncle of a friend of the service advisor at the local Audi dealer lol :)

Ive met and conversed with JV and had a nice chat after the introduction was made on my behalf by a good friend in the paddock at Austria. He was happy to chat and open. He gave me some of his time. There is not much more than 1 could ask a 'champion' to do for a F1 fan. I have a nice picture of this and will try to find it. It was in 2015 I believe.

I had a nice one on one chat with Damon leaving the paddock in Hockenheim. Was late in the afternoon after the race we merged at the tunnel. Nice walk and chat about the race. He could not have been more pleasant. I didnt ask or bother with a picture. It was simply a nice F1 talking moment. No need.

If Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve were undeserving of their titles, what does that make of several other drivers who also won their championship by a fortuitous set of circumstances ?

Wrong advice from his manager, the lure of money and an indifferent treatment at Williams are what pushed Jacques Villeneuve to jump ship and throw his lot with BAR. He was talented, but success came too soon, probably.

There are many factors in a drivers decision matrix for a team switch etc. Who saw or thought Lauda would recruit LH for Mercedes...............

After the last race we saw HAM's statement how he and RUS tried different set ups, and RUS' worked better, and then I just read RUS response, basically taking it a step further and saying that he and his engineers KNEW they had the better set up...just a fine line there on how you look at this, but big credit to RUS for sharing the better outcome with his engineers and sounding more like a team player. And I still don't like HAM.

Yes, Mercedes already had Nico Rosberg as a good driver and poster boy.
Among available drivers, I would have thought Jesson Button more suitable.
At that point, with one WDC, he was the equal of Hamilton and a likeable character.
