In '95 Schumacher quite simply embarrased Williams and Newey with their superior car.

Serious head scratching at Chez Williams.

Meanwhile...back to the topic at hand.

This Friday I was reading an Hamilton interview in which he said that ther was "absolutely no chance to fight for a victory this year", and now...he will start from the third place tomorrow. Could be really interesting...I am interested!

Well without a mechanical problem to a redbull, bad strategy or weather related event , for now, he doesn’t have the car or the pace to win…. But those things happen.

    Ha!

Ham loves reaching for sympathy doesn't he ? :D

I recall Alonso quietly taking the fight to dominant Red Bull & Vettel when the Ferrari shouldn't have been there.

I'm always the first one to hope for the fairest fair fight, man to man, etc...BUT that being said, it's a race...so lots of things can (and sometimes do) happen.
If the fastest man on the grid doesn't win, it's a bit frustrating, but "race incidents", weather, etc... can make for interesting, even sometimes memorable, races.
Remember Button in the canadian Grand Prix 2011? We have a right to hope for tomorrow.

True but some of us are here to witness Ferrari winning again WDC and WCC either..
Not every year of course but at least on a regular basis every decade.
An entertaining race from time to time isn’t enough for me right now.

You may have to wait for a long time.
The F1 map has completely changed since Ferrari last won a title, and strong teams have come along since.
Red Bull and Mercedes didn't exist in 2007, but they won almost everything since.
Success for big players like Williams and McLaren is now a distant memory, possibly never to come back.
Now Aston Martin is coming to the front, from nowhere, and Audi joining soon.
In the middle of that, Ferrari keeps trying to reinvent itself, without much luck so far ...

It's mind boggling to read what you are saying.

The FIA did an investigation on several different occasions and their decision was they were NOT found guilty of cheating.

Despite this fact, you want to label them as cheaters. You want to ignore the severity of the punishment and call it "every incident is different" when everyone is aligned that the rules enforced need to have a level of consistency and precedence is relevant.

The level of contradiction to your words is hard to comprehend. Ignoring the facts and making claims based on your personal biased opinion is a perfectly clear example of you not living in the real world, but one that suits your personal agenda.

Just because Newey designed the best car with Williams in 96 and 97 (and 94 and maybe 95), it does not mean he automatically is leader of the best car with McLaren and by the same margins. However the 98 and 99 were incredible cars, the MP4/13 was the better car... the first McLaren under Newey. This is very elementary knowledge.

Typical Hamilton and Mercedes. If they don't have a 1 second a lap advantage, they make it sound like they are in some sort of critical situation. I don't know if they are deliberately trying to make themselves look like heros by getting a good result with what they claim is a terrible car. Or if they are accidentally making themselves look bad by not performing with a car that is capable of winning races.

What is mind boggling is that, according to you, I am not allowed to have an opinion, but must align to yours !

The fact that you are still sore because Schumacher got a black flag, and 2 race suspension in 1994 isn't really my problem.

There are those, here, that think one can win 100 F1 races by the luck of being in the right car at the right point in time..........

Indeed. This 259 page thread is loaded with posts from TEN guys that think LH is THE luckiest driver in F1 history.
And according to them, they know all about racing...Just ask them and they'll drag out some race 8 years ago where LH spun, which, of course, proves that his 103 GP victories are somehow just blind luck.

It's also 259 pages of LH fans who seems to be incapable of reading English. Simply saying Lewis isn't the GOAT doesn't equate to saying he sucks or is the luckiest guy on the planet.

    But you do you.

I am no LH fan boy, and GR is clearly quick.
There have been plenty of quick young drivers.

There have been greats who have never won a WDC.
Some of us remember Gilles or Ronnie or Stirling.

But, history generally remembers only one thing; titles.
    LH has his titles.
To me he is not a GOAT, but he was a very effective race winner.

But, also, like, now, in 2023, so what ?

I can’t really understand why this thread still gets so many posts compared to say, the Scuderia Ferrari thread, on Ferrari Chat.

I've already said you can have your opinion, not sure why you seem to miss over that. You can believe they cheated, you can believe they were unethical. There is reason enough to have such a belief. It doesn't make it fact though, and your belief is simply your belief. I say the punishments were excessive, because by all accounts of historical precedent suggest it was and you yourself cannot provide an example of such a harsh penalty. Can that be argued anything but fact? Am I sore about it? No. Schumacher and Benetton deserving won IMO. Even if I am a fan of Schumacher over Hill, I won't support his actions in Adelaide. However you seem pretty bitter about him/them winning. If you have a hate for Schumacher or Benetton or just a preference to Williams because of Senna, because its your fav team, because Williams and/or Hill was British, that is your absolute right and I have nothing against that. Did they cheat because you feel they did? According to the FIA, they did not. You can believe what you want though.

Lewis is a lucky mofo, things often fall his way. But I don't think anyone is saying his success is down to luck. He is by far the most fortunate driver in the history of F1, perhaps of all motorsports. Being fortunate to have the most dominating cars in history for a span of roughly 8 years does not make him "lucky". Rosberg was fortunate for 3 years and was able to claim 1 title. Bottas was fortunate for the better part of 5 years, and even though he was a clear #2, he was never a threat to Hamilton over a season.

    They do indeed.

They say that Lewis had the fastest car over <pick a time period> and that the car made all the difference.

Did the car make all the difference to Michael ?
Did the car make all the difference to Sebastian?
Is the car making all the difference to Max?

Agreed: "influential" is not the word I would use. Back in the late fifties and sixties, every time you were stopped by the cops here in France for speeding, the first thing they asked you was "who do you think you are? Fangio?" (
(They don't ask you if you think you are Lewis Hamilton these days (in fact they even stopped him, ha). They don't ask anything nowadays)
Times have changed, you couldn't compare, but everyone knew who Fangio was, back then. Everyone.

It's probably kind of being in the right place at the right time and being able to help everything "gel" correctly ("faire prendre la sauce").
Take Sebastian, for instance; many pundits changed their mind about him during his Ferrari years; clearly, something worked at Red Bull that didn't work well enough at Ferrari. The equation didn't work very well at Ferrari. But it worked well for four years at Red Bull.
So it's the car AND the driver AND the technical designer AND the team; and when / where, there is confidence, then there is more confidence....
By the way, things seems to have been much harder for Daniel Ricciardo after he left Red Bull, so clearly there is "something" in that team also. Newey himself never stayed so long in a team before.

The equation also took quite sometime to work for Michael at Ferrari; I still have some clippings from the Italian press taken during 1996, where they talk about "those idiots now leading Ferrari into the wall"...(by "idiots", read here Todt, Schumacher, etc...) or the Monza boards in 1995: "Better one Alesi than a hundred Schumachers")

Show me a post, in this thread, where LH was called the "GOAT". I'm sure one exists, but it will take you a while to find it.
NOW, show me a post in this thread discussing how "LUCKY" Lewis is. That will be much easier to find. Hey, what do you know...there's several "lucky" post on THIS page...
You guys do this passive/aggressive thing, where you get called out, and then say "we didn't say THAT"
But you know what you imply.

I like the "you do you". Never hear that before, but I'm still using "been there, done that" as my go to.
