Pretty sure they were invited to the stewards office for a breathalyzer test really. Was this race sponsored by Fosters' extra strength or something? What went through their brain ordering a standing restart after watching the F2 and F3 races lol
Yep, another milestone race for the FIA. I blame the race direction and stupid safety protocols. Red flags are killing F1 !
No further action for gasly/ocon. Gasly can attend the race in Baku. Not the first time the FIA suddenly is lenient on a driver that would face a ban otherwise, lol.
Another solid day at work for powered by Honda P1, 5 and 10 Crazy race Hats off to Perez for moving up nicely
so to summarize: No penalty for Gasly for taking Ocon out No penalty for Sargeant for driving over De vries A penalty for Sainz for hitting Alonso, despite it being on the edge of a racing incident. Make it make sense.
Isn't Red Bull an energy drink (another category from soda, though similar distribution channels)? Ferrari participates in multiple racing categories. They just aren't good enough in this F1 category that requires you be good (more mike exceptional) at all aspects (car, driver, team support, strategy, on and on). They are still able to sell more and more cars and now SUVs. Having a Ferrari as part of your sub 1%er lifestyle seems to be chugging along just great regardless of who bumbles the team along (come on Fred).
Im glad I just watched the replay, what a long race. I can't believe they did a restart with only a handful laps remaining. What did they think was going to happen?
No love lost between those 2 ! Lol Their cohabitation at Alpine will be interesting to watch in the months to come.
Am I wrong in seeing some similarity between the Gasly/Ocon incident today and Vettel/Hamilton one at Montreal a few years back ? In Canada, Vettel was accused of re-entering the track "without due care and attention" after an off limit excursion in the grass. Hamilton was also squeezed by Vettel but managed to slow down and avoid contact. Vettel inherited a 5 sec penalty, and was demoted from his 1st place. Today, Gasly made the same unfortunate move, but Ocon kept his foot down and didn't try to miss his team mate, if I judge by the video. Both lost out in that "encounter". Today the stewards were more lenient.
Fans looking to 'engage' .............. Australian GP promoter found in breach of FIA protocol after F1 track invasion The Australian Grand Prix promoter has been found in serious breach of FIA security protocols and safety measures after Formula 1 fans invaded the track before the race had ended. Apr 2, 2023, 3:33 PM Image Unavailable, Please Login In an unusual step, The Australian Grand Prix Corporation was formally summoned to the stewards after the conclusion of a chaotic third round of the 2023 world championship that was red-flagged on three occasions. A fourth red flag was shown after Max Verstappen's Red Bull took the checkered flag after "a large group of spectators managed to break the security lines and accessed the track while the race was still ongoing," per the FIA's explanation. Fans were able to reach the stranded Haas of Nico Hulkenberg which parked on the exit of Turn 2 after finishing seventh, which the stewards said "still had its light flashing red (i.e. the car was in an unsafe condition with possible electrical discharge)". It found event organisers were found in breach of Article 12.2.1.h of the FIA's International Sporting Code and has requested that the promoter "urgently present a formal remediation plan to the FIA". The stewards stated that "the security measures and the protocols which were expected to be in place for the Event were not enforced resulting in an unsafe environment for the spectators, drivers and race officials" and stated that the matter would be referred to the World Motor Sport Council "for a further investigation to determine whether any additional steps need to be taken or penalties applied beyond the remediation plan".
Many years ago Mexico lost its right to hold a F1GP following track invasion. So it should be something to watch for the organisers at Melbourne.
Absolutely. I think Gasly is overall quicker than Ocon, but he was caught in the chaos of the last restart.
With crowds so large and drink etc - they will need better gates and more security. Im sure they will have a good 'think' about it.
