I'm with Trev on this one, thus the reason I dumped some serious $$$ into my gated 2002 with the intention to make an incredible driving 'experience'

The 355 + 360 and F50 are the only Ferrari that have 5 valves per cylinder.
Also the 430 had Maserati engine :D:eek: Manual 360 with Trevor tune + CS exhaust will be sick. But manual F430 would still be great car...

The 360 was the end of the line for the Dino v8 with variable valve timing and 5 valves per cylinder, they switched to the shared Maser/Ferrari v8 with the 430.

Ferrari shared the engine with Maserati, not the other way around... also:

The engine's output specifications are: 490 PS (360 kW; 483 hp),[9] at 8,500 rpm and 465 N⋅m (343 lb⋅ft) of torque at 5,250 rpm, 80% of which is available below 3,500 rpm. Despite a 20% increase in displacement, engine weight grew by only 4 kg (8.8 lb) along with a decrease in diameter for easier packaging. The connecting rods, pistons and crankshaft were all entirely new, while the 4-valve cylinder head, valves and intake trumpets were directly retained from Formula 1 engines, for ideal volumetric efficiency.

I drove an F1 360; maybe you won't feel the 90 HP if you don't push hard, but you do feel the extra torque down low, where 360 has much less ...
Just my 2 cents, I love the 360, I actually wanted to get a stick one, and in many ways I am sorry I did not.

Yes and No........ because it is so damn expensive they've become garage queens.
They're no longer a 'driver's car' except the fake ones Image Unavailable, Please Login

360s are cheap enough to trash and so the fun factor is greater.
    My biased opinion, of course

I'm not even sure the manual box is that good on both. You are never going to win any races against an F1 box that's for sure. The pedals are also to close together for anyone over a size 9 and apart from the slightly more interaction and the snick snick noise, its not a fast precise box either.

I have come to terms (like I have an SMG box in the M3 which was woeful) that it is a sign of the times, its the early attempts of F1 Tech single clutch robotized gearbox, that was the must have back in the day, and that's why hardly anyone bought a manual. On to today and its even better now than it was then, because in this world of seamless, millisecond, supers smooth boring dual clutch boxes, the F1 is brutal, mechanical, exciting, raw and the interaction is just fine as well!

I have said it before, people who have a 360 will say its the best and vice versus with the 430. Horses for courses and we would all have a better Ferrari if we could afford no doubt!

If you want to win races, I would suggest buying something with better performance than a 20 year old stock Ferrari. Most performance cars of this era have very narrow pedals. I find it very roomy coming from a viper.

I don’t want to win any races, i never mentioned I did, I am just saying the F1 is a much faster box and will never flunk a gear change.

Which is true, but I think people buy these cars for driving enjoyment moreso than performance.

This topic has been debated for YEARS and I am sure many more years to come
Three things I have realized owning many different cars

    1. Faster does NOT mean more fun for the street
    2. Manual Vs. auto ... completely a personal preference, for more of a visceral connected drivers experience I want 3 pedals, for my drop-top SL63 cruiser I want 2.
    3. Technology (driving aids) in cars is slowly killing the 'driving experience' ... 2 of the best cars I've had in recent years is the TT/RS and the 2017 NSX, both were incredible cars in their own right BUT BOTH were incredibly boring to drive. My 2002 Viper GTS, 1965 Shelby Cobra and my 900HP 1969 pro-touring Camaro (way too much power btw) ... were Insane, dangerous cars = awesome !!

If you read some of the threads here on F-Chat on the best 'experiences' folks have had either owning or driving certain Ferrari's, almost all of the best ones were those driving older generations. It's not about speed or even handling ... it's about looks and beauty, how the car makes you feel, how the car sounds, how raw and connected the car feels and how its gets the adrenaline flowing through your veins when cruising through the country side. Don't get me wrong, driving the 575HP NSX through the country was a very pleasant enjoyable experience but the ONLY time it would get the blood racing was when you let it rip with launch control ... even this gets boring after a few times

    So ... 430 Vs. 360 ... I'll take the one with 3 pedals LOL

Just 'sayin' ... my 2 cents
    Cheers

i used to have a 2013 Mini JCW and I'd agree with this statement, that was incredibly fun to drive, I'd argue the fun factor was higher in that car than my 360.

only thing wrong is all the BMW plastic in the engine bay!

    And there it is.
I've owned a lot of 911s through the years. None were the fastest cars on the streets. The operable words are "on the streets"

Yet with that said, they were a ton of fun to drive-- and I even took in a few to track events. That's were I learned I could out-brake and overtake much "faster" cars. ;)

Jay Leno is a big proponent of "the most fun you can have in a car is between 40mph and 140mph".

Of course he also tears around in his F1 on a regular basis so..... :p

Might as well ask which color is best. :D

There's too much personal emotion tied to something like these cars that goes beyond performance or handling. Similar to the Jeep groups arguing which generation of Wrangler is the best or any forum arguing which oil is the best :)

I had a 2008 JCW, loved it until the timing chain failed at 60k miles. Got more positive comments on that car than any exotic I have ever owned. It was the only car I could say got female attention and not just middle age men and pre-teen boys.

This thread is silly… 430 owners are always acting like the 430 is light years past the 360 which the 430 interior is just as mundane as the 360. The 458 is where you will really see the difference. 430 owners bought an over priced newly shaped 360. You are kidding yourself if you don’t see 360 elements in the 430. 360 owners know their car brought Ferrari into the new century with a massive hit in the design category. The F355 and 360 are two of the most famous sounding Ferrari’s ever made. No one talks about the 430 sound which you can lie to yourself and act like it sounds better. People on here act like the 360 isn’t rare but only 1,810 Modena’s ever touched U.S asphalt and 4,199 total were shipped to the USA which in terms for most is quite rare. Who cares if less 430’s are here the 360 is still exclusive enough for far less. The 360 has a much better dollar value than the 430. The 360/430 section lately seems to be flooded with a lot more 430 headache problem threads than the 360. The belt service way blown out of proportion on here. You shouldn’t own a Ferrari if dropping 3k is a problem every 3 years.
