Hey all, I took the 355 for a drive today and notice that it is leaking F1 fluid whenever the pump is engaged from this place pictured. Still shifts fine, but seems to have developed since it was last driven (a month or so ago.) Any assistance would be much appreciated.

.....not sure why pictures won't show up.

There is a 1 percent chance that the place oil is dripping from on a car is the place it is leaking. At best.

    Dig deeper.

When did you last fill the F1 tank?

The leak is coming from exactly there. I checked from above and the pipe is completely dry. There is no fluid at all above that point. I will try to tighten it.

There is no fluid above the point that is circled in the above picture. If the car is on and the pump is engaged, you can watch the fluid drip out.

The F1 fluid has not been refilled in the past year at least. Can I just refill it? from above?
I am a new to the F355 and the F1 system in it. Looking to learn as much as I can so it does not have to go to the dealer for everything.

I asked because it is important to fill the system after the car has been sitting for several hours.

The system draws quite a bit of fluid into the pump and accumulator. If you check the tank after it has done that, the tank will be almost empty. The temptation is to fill it up. However, if you do that, it will weep fluid out the hole in the cap as the system depressurizes. It makes a bit of a mess. Drive the car and it moves the mess all over the place.

There is a tube on the actuator that acts as some type of drain. It seems that it weeps fluid out that tube when temperatures become very cold. It has never happened to my car, but others have reported it.

I assume you checked that the fittings on the bleed junction are all quite snug, correct?

What is the recommended F1 fluid these days? I was able to fix the leak but a lot of fluid leaked out. I have no record of what the prior fluid was (due to unforeseen circumstances I no longer have the prior records.) so any tips to determine this would also be helpful.

Worst care I will send it to the dealer to do an F1 flush with the SD1......or if anyone has a good lead on how to get an SD1 computer :)

I am located in rural USA and will try to track some of this down.
Thanks so much for the help.

    Anyone else have any recommendations?

Just to close the loop on this problem, it turns out that there was a hairline crack at the bottom near the bleeder screw. Replaced and the issue was resolved.
    No more leak.

Thanks again for everyone's help. Looking forward to learning more.

Valvoline DEX/MERC ATF is suitable for our Ferrari F355 F1 system. It explicitly states compatibility with Dexron III, which matches the hydraulic fluid requirements for the F1 transmission.

I bought it at Advanced Auto Parts for around $12 per quart.

Seems that it’s 7oz to fill the reservoir to max when cold.
