Simple question. Going to have mine refinished shortly and need to know what color it is. Thought it was silver, but pulling it out it looks almost like a 'champagne' color. Anyone have a paint code?
It’s not painted. They are bare aluminum when new and sometimes a yellow hue covers it as that is some sort of sealant sprayed on it from the factory. The early 95 was sand cast and rough like the 348 the later type was die cast and smoother. To get a nice finish I vapor hone them. I had my 348 bell housing vapor blasted inside and out the coated with a product with cerakote - looks like new Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Of course Elliot would know. Duh...I should have thought of that. ..and right on cue! Thanks. Looks great. Mine is definitely painted because, well, it's peeling. hahaha I have had the car since 2010 and never really bothered to clean it as it looked pretty good. That looks great as well. I have no idea what vapor honing is, but it looks like I am about to find out.
This may be a questions Elliot might be able to answer… I’ve noticed that many UK cars have a clutch cover heat shield whereas Aus delivered cars do not. Was this a factory option?
Rob, it was a stock part in some markets... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Ref. 63 Part no. 163757
Never made their way on Australia delivered F355, most of the ROW cars had them though a few iterations as well. For whatever reason our cars didn’t come from the factory with it.
Yes, as Brian said, it was more a cooling duct. The clutch cover/heat shield was modified a bit for use on F355 Challenge cars... Thats the Challenge car part. It was for sure more effective. The street car part only covered the lower part where there was no heat but a lot of fresh air but as I remember it it was shaped to catch some air from under the car.
Heat reflective material is on the clutch cover for when the Challenge muffler is mounted for tracks with noise restrictions... Image Unavailable, Please Login In such a case, the clutch cover also acts as a heat shield.
My super early U.S spec 355 (first street 355 in U.S Vin) came with this rare clutch cooler. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had to restore mine. It’s been unobtanium for at least a decade. Maybe two. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
