It's no different than listening to people's comments when sitting thru all those "Brand Focus" groups. :) (If they still do those like they did at GM during the 90's)

Problem being is that most of the public has a deeply ingrained perception of what a car should be. Lol, ever sit thru a Corvette focus group? (I know you have ;)) It's a losing battle as they do nothing but offer negatives or cues to the past. They offer zero guidance on where to take the design into the future. best designers can do is take their shot and hope it succeeds.

As you know a brand as iconic as Ferrari has more than it's fair share of deep, phycological preconceived expectations. When you say "Ferrari SUV" to the general public, who isn't a car guy, they cringe. It doesn't fit their preconceived notion of what a Ferrari should be. Hence the backlash and memes. (Which are clearly jokes and not meant to be serious) Being "beautiful" or not has no sway on their core belief.

Just find a "non car" person and ask them if they knew Ferrari now sells an SUV. Then watch their expression. :D

BTW has anyone seen the viral video of the guy showing the underside of the Urus and how every single part is made by Audi or VW? Think there will be one of the PS showing all Maserati parts?

Anthony, of course you nailed it. I've been doing this for over 50 yrs:eek:, and I'm still perplexed by the general publics response to design.

I appreciate the emotion/passion around the perception of the design, in this case the PS. And designers far smarter than me just gave it a prestigious award for design. Does that make them right? Not necessarily, but it does say something about the design of the PS and Mr. Manzoni's team.

I'm endlessly amused at the comments some make about appearance & design. I guess that's what keeps the design community busy.

My personal criteria has been consistent over the last 50 yrs.
    1. does it look like the 'brand'? Would my mother have been able to identify it?
    2. is it new/fresh?
    Always about judgement & execution.

I agree wholeheartedly. I may not personally like the idea behind the PS but I think they did a great job considering how hard it is to work around that package. I'm a fan of Manzoni and what he has done so far. Just goes to show like art and fashion, car design is emotional and subjective. Although if there is anyone qualified to judge a design around here its most certainly you. Respect. :)

I've always been a fan of Mazda's surfacing since the Furai so I don't find the comparisons to the PS insulting. What's more troubling to me than the PS or Mazda is that I actually like the new Prius design! :D

    Thank you, you're too kind.

The new Prius is a huge hit design wise. Finally!
Mazda has had it going on for some time now, design wise. The comparisons to the PS to me are flattering to both parties, but I would never confuse the two. Ever.

I have signed the ROFR too while ordering. But that made me question something to be honest. I signed ROFR when I bought a vehicle from Ferrari before too. But this time we are signing it before receiving the vehicle. Does that mean that the previous ones are structured legally wrongly ?
I had always that question in my mind: If a dealer is willing to sign it they should do it while ordering the vehicle otherwise you are kind of forcing them to sign while they are getting the delivery of vehicle and while they have already paid the the down payment...

I have come to the realization many people on this site have no sense of humor or don’t have the ability to recognize it when it is staring them in the face or they have never ordered anything online…and got something completely different from what they thought they ordered.
Life is too short to spend it belittling others.
    As the saying goes:
Smart people talk about ideas(some on this site)
Average people talk about things(many on this site)
and below average people talk about other people (our culture encourages this)
LOL- enjoy it for what it is or be miserable- your choice.
I think I’ll go take my GTS for a spin and have some

We have by the end of the week to lock our spec. Thought we were going Rosso portofino but now leaning strongly to Celeste Met a historical colour that just loves the sun and shows all the curves and angles. Trying to avoid 3/4 layer paints if this is going to be our ‘workhorse’ (well after the F150 and RR does their bit.....)

The PS press vehicle in Houston now is rosso portofino. I assume the same vehicle as it is not a production vehicle per the SA.

Bit of a head scratcher after seeing it in person. Hasn’t changed my feelings though.

Let me preface this by saying I like trucks and SUVs and have had at least one if not two of each contemporaneously for nearly 30 years. My wife's daily is an F250 crew cab diesel (though a short bed).

What made me scratch my head is that the PS looks much bigger on the outside than I expected and the inside is just plane small. Much smaller than what the outside suggests- the rear seats are cramped at best (and I'm not a big person by any means) and not particularly comfortable. Also, the trunk/boot space is not really that much at all. This is an SUV sized vehicle with little if any "utility."

On the plus side, even though it is not photogenic, it doesn't look that bad in person and is not the worst looking SUV out there.

I do believe Ferrari succeeding in hitting its marks on designing this car for its target audience. Trophy wives will like it.

ps Nobody was able to tell me which powertrain iteration (Hybrid 6 or 8) will be available to the common man once the 12s go to the VIPs.

saw it yesterday and agreed on all points.
it actually does not look bad.
but it is large on the outside but with nearly less interior space than a lusso, certainly less cargo space.
and they are optioning up to the $500-550k mark.....which is plain stupid for all but the rarified air breathing few....

I just don’t get it, I suppose I’m not part of the target audience.
Big on the outside, cramped and uncomfortable on the inside?
Not a sports car, not a truly functional “utility” vehicle (not going to run errands in it and pick up odds and ends for working around the house), and not the usual choice for long road trips with a bunch of luggage for more than two people (kids?).
Is it just an overweight 2+ GT car?
Then there’s the price. You know most will be optioned well above $500K.
I recently bought my wife a Bentley Bentayga in the mid $200’s.
It is roomy, more than enough performance, and to my eye quite handsome (especially her’s in striking Marlin blue), very comfortable and beautiful interior, drives like a dream with the 48V active suspension technology, and no worries running errands or leaving it at the airport. Even her parents’ giant walkers fit in the back..LOL.

Yep! Just got back from over a week out west…Utah is amazing!
Bentayga was exactly as we left her sitting at the airport…just an SUV doing its duty. :)

It’s like seeing everything from Benzes, BMWs, RR Bentley and even an 812 parked on the streets on the upper east side of manhattan. Up until 2-3 years ago fairly safe to do. Not anymore…

FL is different. I won’t say anything more than that for fear of risking P&R content. ;)
