I still need to ask my publishing lawyer if Cavallino is allowed to use my 14 covers for this without a fee since the book was not part of the article for publication transaction. Just been very busy with more important things but if a fee is applicable I will get it.

Just ordered a copy, a work of art I understand. Cancelled my Le Mans trip, way too expensive, so this is my substitute...

I have just had an email saying my copy has been despatched, so not delayed after all. Although I just ordered the standard edition so it could be the "special" editions that are delayed?

Yes, surprisingly, the Hesketh book is there! It was Porter Press who talked about "several weeks" of delay - maybe to surprise us with early delivery ;)

What do you all think of the Hesketh book? That is one where I am sitting on the fence waiting to decide whether on not to buy it...

I am waiting for delivery, but I expect a highly entertaining book as the story of His Lordship's life is colourful and entertaining! And the images which I have seen in the preview are very good.

Originally, I wanted to buy the signed special edition and asked whether Lord Hesketh in additon to signing it would write a personal note for me in the book (they weren't signed yet at that time). But Porter Press refused to do it (as they refused in case ot the Jackie Stewart Edition of the BRM book). Without a personal note, just with a standard signature, the high prices of these editions are not justified in my view.

I will post up my impressions of the Hesketh book when it arrives which should be in a day or two.

I know that for the signed copies of the F40 book, Keith Bluemel was given just the relevant page to sign which was then bound into the book. That would make it impossible to have a personal note as they would need some mechanism to track that specific page and the resultant completed book so that it got to you and not some other random buyer. So, I don't know if they gave you an explanation, but I would imagine that is the reason. I guess it is easier to do it that way as they don't have to get a big pile of books in front of the person signing, just the right number of pages and the completed book can easily be shrink-wrapped and thus better protected.

Strangely, other publishers could do that! Actually, it’s a piece of cake, and when you ask several hundred GBP up to 1,000 GBP for a copy, it should be no question.

I guess it might depend as previously pointed out if the author is signing a stack of pages that are yet to be bound or a stack of completed books.

A lot easier to just put a fully completed book to one side with a post-it note on the cover saying "for Buchpilot" as opposed to a page that still needs to be added to a book during the final binding process.

Hi Mark, that sounds reasonable, but Lord Hesketh will be at the Motoring Literary Festival of Porter Press, as is Jackie Stewart planned to be, and it would have been an easy thing to let them sign special copies. It all comes down to the question whether you want to offer exceptional customer service or not for an aggregate price of 1,300 GBP.

BUT: I am not angry or want to criticise Porter Press. It's their decision. I ordered standard copies both of BRM and Hesketh and I am happy with that. Especially, I am looking forward to Hesketh, which I expect to be a splendid book. And it saved me a lot of money. But, it would have been nice to ... Well, you know ;)

Just took half an hour off, looked through volume two, simply amazing. If you have the slightest interest in the topic get this book, it is like a time machine with a lost world unveiling itself as the pages turn. There maybe many more 'half an hours' to come.

I am afraid, many people are currently looking for Vol.3, as there have been many buyers of the recent special offer of the first two volumes. Just take care not to outbid each other ;)

Apparently ebay is refunding the redundant VAT payment - it's no cost for them, since the VAT did not have to be paid twice anyway. They do not refund the additional charge from UPS, so their solution is not to pretend their offer was working (in which case UPS would not have charged me), but to make things like they never offered to take care (at no charge) of the VAT. Of course they did not have to make such an offer, so the situation is not critical - it was just a waste of time.

There is no VAT on books in the UK so it wouldn't have been paid twice.
