Anyone have any expertise on identification of parts or complete cars that have been reproduced? I am interested in these, and have noticed some variations on cars offered for sale that may or may not be original. Examples: I have seen cars that have cast into the bottom pan the words FONDERPRESS Bologna Italy, and have also seen cars without this ID. Also have seen some variation in the instrument location to the right of the steering wheel, along with minor variations in the placement of the Ferrari shield. And, lastly, the paint finish seems to vary widely. I am aware of replacement parts being made for these, but would like to become more educated as to what to look for to verify originality. Any and all input is welcome, just trying to be aware of what I am looking at. My concerns lie with possibly acquiring a car with repro body and all.

I’m on this company’s mailing list. They have great stuff and I’ve been to the shop, and purchased from them in the past with high confidence. I have no idea if this is all original or not, but it sure is beautiful.

It is my understanding that the Toschi branded 500 F2 models were produced in a few series, over a period of a few years in the early to mid '50s, by more than one maker. If I recall correctly, the ones marked "Fonderpress" are from the later series. As you mentioned, they can be rather tough to gauge and assess. There is quite a bit of variation in the finish from one series to another and from one model to another. Compounding it all, they have been sought out for a long time, so many of them have been worked on through the years. Both the Toschi 500 F2 and the later 312 T2 seem to have seen a real run up in prices lately. A decade or so ago, finding a nice 500 F2 for roughly 10% of what Bentleys is asking for the one posted above was not completely out of the question...

That's definitely on the high retail end, but still within the current selling range.

Yes completely agree, and I'll go further to say it looks terrible, and to me it is close to worthless. Always buy the best, then you'll only cry once!

Cry when you step up to the plate to spend a lot of money paying for it........and then, IF you bought something that is a bad - poor quality purchase - overpaid for it, etc... then you cry again. So for the Toschi 500 F2 example being offered by Nicola... I would cry two times.
