Hello all, I am looking into getting my first F car, and the 458 is at the top of my list. I strongly prefer the clean look without shields, however, it seems like the vast majority of cars were optioned with them. My question is how feasible would it be to “delete” the shields on a car that came with them? Also if anyone has any idea how many were specced without shields I’d appreciate the info!
You can’t ‘delete’ the fender shields as they were built in to the fenders…. Well, I mean, I guess you ‘could’ with bodywork to fill in the indentations and holes where they are attached or just buy new fenders but… There is an even more rare option of painted shields rather than actual shields and if you found one with hand painted shields, just use a standard wall roller and roll right over them with any paint color that is close to what the car is. Store the wall paint roller behind the passenger seat in the provided netting. Just put it in there wet. When the paint dries, it’ll hold it in place. If you choose either option, you’ll have a transfender Ferrari…. Should fit right in to today’s world. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Many here (myself included) believe that shields are a must. Are cars without shields worth less? Possibly. At least one person on this forum bought a car sans shields and made an extraordinary effort to acquire and install the parts necessary to integrate the shields (new wings and shields). IMO, shields fly the Ferrari flag and are a component of the magic of the Ferrari ownership.
I agree. Ferraris without shields just look weird to me— I know there are strange purists that think they ONLY belong on special series and race version cars but they are a must for me on any Ferrari. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
You could probably get the shields wrapped with vinyl so they will not be noticeable from 10 feet away.
Appreciate the replies! I recognize the sans-shield look is controversial (explains why they’re so difficult to find lol). I wouldn’t mind swapping in the carbon shields on a grey/black car for a more stealth look if that’s feasible too
The top has shields, while the bottom does not. I am still yet to hear anybody complain that the tailor-made Pista is missing shields. Still seems to garner the same respect Ferraris with shields get. Anyone who thinks it’s terrible can certainly buy their own Pista with shields. Buy what you like. But I wouldn’t mod this part of the car. Just find the right fit that doesn’t need to be changed. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
There is a reason a car with no shields is hard to find (and hats off to @05F430F1 for the transfender humor. Spilt my morning coffee)
I couldn’t agree more. Most Ferrari owners are compelled to remind everyone around them they drive a Ferrari every chance they get.
A Ferrari with shields look great. Even better are the bigger guarded cars with painted shields. This looks absolutely stupid.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Try hard wanna be.
Agree- that would absolutely stop me from buying a car even if it had every single other option I wanted. No shields, not buying it, period.
