I too get this 'feel' as you described, you wrote well how I see him. That said...

You could be right, too; I don't know Stroll personally, and I have not seen anything (though open to it) that shows he is a spoilt brat. If you have some examples, I"m happy to change my mind.

I won't deny though he's not a top-tier driver and is thoroughly sucking on the tit of nepotism. That said, I can't blame the guy for being born on third base, with zero outs, and your star player at bat. The only thing he could do was refuse to compete precisely to avoid this smear. Does that make Stroll a person that caved into social pressure or one of character? I don't know.

Not at all, but his atitude towards Massa was really shamefull and representative of his childish and brat personality.
He might have changed though, but he makes some dangerous mistakes and has a hard time taking blame for it.

He was 18 at the time, so I give him leeway for that.

IMO he's grown into a decent driver. I will always stand by what I said about him in his first 3 years, he was far from impressive at the time. But the driver he is now vs then is vastly different. Clearly though, that podium he scored early on and that pole in the wet, showed he had potential in him.

Is he amazing? No. But I think after plenty of mentorship from Perez, Vettel and now Alonso, I would call him just above average.

Regarding his personality, from what little we see of him I can't say a bad word about him.

If we base it on average of the existing driver talent on the grid today, then I still have to rank Lance below average.

He still makes some horrible mistakes that are too often flat out dangerous. He isn't a slow poke out there though.

I still rank him around the likes of Kevin Magnussen or Zhou. Which on my list is around 14-16th. There are plenty of drivers on this planet that would out perform Stroll, but at least he isn't ridiculously bad like a Mazepin. And kudo's to him for working at getting better. Sure his dad will keep buying him the best of everything, and he's had some great drivers to learn from, but he is using all these tools to help himself get better. Anyone deserves credit for that.

So----- no wins, still needs driving lessons and nearly killed FA last year at Austin and he is employable LOL!?? Thats the mark of an 'F1 Driver' today who has YEARS in the sport. No he is not forgettable at all.
At most if not all teams he was fired/released years ago.

Fair enough, no argument from me.

To be fair the mid field is quite tough to rank. The mistakes he still makes that directly impact others is the biggest worry for me. But as you say, his overall speed has improved significantly over his 1st/2nd season.

Yes, he clearly is a lot better now, problem is he was soo bad!!!! But he even pulls some good overtakings from time to time, and he's a good starter, i'll give him that....but of course, with his car, there are plenty of midfield driver sthat would do better...just remenber how Hulkenberg schooled him without any practice or knowledge of the car...

    Class act post. Hat off.

Haters will be haters but you're not one of them. Takes greatness to come around.

As for me: Happy to see Lance in F1 for the next 15 years although I'm not sure that's gonna happen.

Maybe. It's certainly a place where he could drive past his youth and still score without all the long distance traveling.

Funny thing is that you'd think F1 guys would clean up the Indycar or NASCAR fields given their talents but that's rarely happening. Can't really say why but neither Piquet nor Montoya nor Kimi accomplished much. I guess that speaks volumes for guys like Fittipaldi, Andretti Sr. and Villeneuve Jr.

My bad. Yes of course. The classic swap with Andretti Jr. One succeeded big time, one failed miserably.

It looks like it was an Aston mistake. They wanted to save tyres, and didn't give the softs for both their drivers in Q1.

Lance got eliminated, and Alonso barely saved it when then changed at the last minute.

Didn't you see the interview? They tried two different setups. They gambled and it worked for Alonso but not for Stroll. I'm sure he'll have Alonso's setup tomorrow for the race.

Thanks guys. I missed the interview.

So Lance should be in the top 10 tomorrow at the end of the race then?
