    Chassis #2514. At the time of this photo the car was owned by Lord Doune in Scottland. Later sold to Germany. Then sold to an American collector who kept it in the UK (and never saw the car....) and then it was sold back to Germany again until today. One of the most original Tipo 26 as it still has its original (!) engine fitted
    covered by a 95% original coachwork.

    The Maserati 5000 GT bodied by Bertone has the VIN 104.004 and not 104.002. Furthermore it was fitted with a 5000GT engine in the 60s. Photos by Adolfo Orsi confirm that. So it was a real 5000GTs with 5000GT instruments and other fittings.

    If this is the case, why is it then laped as Tipo 104 and not Tipo 103 as all other 5000GT`s are...?

    The "Tipo 104" seemed assigned to development car's or "one off" that didn't come into production.

    The Maserati 5000GT bodied by Bertone could not be sold in 1961, so it was stored in the Maserati Museum until a new request came in. Nevertheless, the chassis number is 104.004, not 104.002.It was a real 5000GT in 1961 and was displayed in Turin as a "Maserati 5000GT".

    We can discuss this car back and forth - fact is, according to the official type-stamping of Maserati, that its not a "real" 5000GT (which had been labeled as Tipo 103!). Yes, Maserati could not sell it in `61 and it remained stored. But question is: WHY did Maserati label it as "Tipo 104" when they also described it to the public as a 5000GT? Most likely they did it to put it on the market as a "new" Maserati-type. But in this case, why are they referring the car then to the -older!- 5000GT?
    However, the car, is there and need to be respected as something "molto especiale", perhaps as a "5000GT without a 5000GT-engine"....
    hmmmm.....

    These little OSCA MT4s were fantastic cars!!! Easy to handle, fast, well balanced with good brakes and....very nice looking.

    A Ghibli in tight turns is a big ask -not its comfort zone- and its brakes will fade. A Khamsin, its direct, much improved successor on the other hand is far more agile and has much better brakes but neither were ever raced. Some boy racer types may have done little clubby races with Ghiblis in period but at a very, very grass roots level.

    The Ghibli and also the Khamsin are both simply too heavy to be raced in their time.

    But intersting is, that a German Ghibli was used as a fire-brigade car during F1-races in the 1970s. Unfortunately, this car is not existing anymore.

    it wasn't fast enough for Ronnie Peterson. It did not have the fire extinguishing equipment as the German version had (as described in the ad).
