I've been noticing lately that when I plug my charger in, it starts off in "bulk" charge which means that the battery is less than 80%, even after a drive. Quick check of the date (nicely written on the front of the battery for easy ID by the previous owner) shows it was replaced back in 2016. Figured it was due for a new one before I end up getting stranded somewhere or electrical issues start popping up. Went ahead and ordered an Antigravity battery as a replacement. I like the idea of a more consistent voltage regardless of state of charge.

I am not implying that the risk of fire with a lithium iron phosphate battery is high, but it does exist should the battery become unstable as a result of overcharging or excessive heat. For me, it is overkill at a high cost with limited benefit. This is obviously not the case for others. As I said before, I am too cheap to spend $900 on a car battery (might reconsider if it came with installation by a good looking scantily clad young lady). :)

So, just installed my new battery with the Bluetooth monitor (which is an excellent ad on if you didn’t get it).

However, I did the idle voltage test with it and it’s saying that my car is not running. I’m guessing it’s looking for alternator charging current which makes me wonder if I just discovered that my alternator is bad and that’s why I’ve been having to use the tender more often on my old battery.

What’s the best way to test to see if the alternator is working?

    Thank you!!!

Everything is right as rain. Went from a low of 13.52 to 13.87 as I started it. Also saw it climb when I revved the engine a bit.

I was reading over the manual for the Bluetooth module and the only readouts it talks about is low/high/no voltage. Nowhere does it address the message of “car not started.” Anybody else see this? Maybe a Ferrari thing?

That voltage seems on the low side ..i am not familiar with the antigravity battery and this module .. but a volt meter to the battery terminals of an AGM battery while running without load will be over 14...14.47 when cold especially

I’ll hook up and actual multimeter to it this weekend and see what I get. At the very least, I know my alternator is working which is a relief.

Yes and no ..it is charging but i am questioning if working 100 percent .. I would like to see over 14.2 on a cold start at battery terminals at idle (no load)

    Cold start, headlights only.

The Bluetooth monitor did pick up at 14.4 so it was slightly off between the two. That said, my first test was after installing the battery out of the box. Today’s test was after the battery was allowed to charge, not sure if that should change it that much. Also, yesterday’s test was done about an hour after I drove it for an hour.

That looks good !! Alternator looks good !

If the number stays above 13.8 even when hot .. you are good to go

What is the standing voltage after you shut car off .. about 12 hours after ?

It was about 13.6 when I hooked up the meter today and it was off the tender since last night. I’ll see if I can get some more readings after I actually drive it. Want to see if I can get by with no tender for a while. I drive it once or twice a week.

Quick update. Going to try and keep the car off the tender until the app actually calls for it. So far, it’s sticking at 100% soc with a twice weekly drive to work.

standing voltage is a solid 13.4 and doesn’t seem to waver. Cold start test pictures below (14.36) with hot running voltage at 13.8-13.9

The battery tracker is so useful, I’d recommend everybody get one even if you don’t have the antigravity battery. They have them for standard batteries as well. Just some more piece of mind knowing what my battery performance is at without guessing.

I've had mine off the tender for about 2 months without a single drive and it really hasn't moved.

Did you go with the 30, 40, or 60A antigravity? Thanks.

I went with the 60 as I wanted the piece of mind for longer periods of inactivity during the winter. In retrospect I probably only needed the 40 as I drive it regularly and could easily throw a charger on when it’s sitting for the winter.

I would have also gotten the T6/L2 as Mario Andretti mentioned but was unsure how the battery clamped down at the time and just decided to get the exact size to match factory. The shorter battery would give you a little more room to fit the terminals.

That’s good to hear. Did you go with the H6 or T6 size housing?

I've been using one for over four years:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/144924395932?hash=item21be2ac99c:g:HbwAAOSw9W9jMVW0&amdata=enc:AQAIAAAA0P7p07POwjCwAozKbS8Wp+RervnLukITb+7GSODnU5h4BGhbo9DQjE7kW54oDnGgo2FCnCfNj7Y6OnebWbFLyAT0plyRfdlym14/7TGITBmKRIYMjzfO8wyrgCRVlxUBDPNmxiYaENh9m9FvxOx2PDSVbr5OpOknHaCRPEI7iHLp28sfkjqbTD/9qFtVU13WDBHZxkIdMT9wdSeZoUrjul0CdTEcfwTv3jY0S1xml8F0Mv43NW99xRhi3HzJkM/DCdOIlJZQmVDQkwyfYh2Zl1w=|tkp:Bk9SR6ScucGJYg
The app is free and it synchs up anytime you are within bluetooth range...about 25 feet.
Lots of useful information you can track. This one is NOT for lithium batteries.

There are even cheaper ones in Ebay for around $11 with free shipping.

Here is a lithium battery monitor:

My 2023 M3 Competition comes from the factory with a lithium-ion battery made by Lithium Energy Japan. Technology is evolving rapidly, though it’s still quite an expensive battery.

I noticed their recommendation is to use the 60 Ah battery.
"Ferrari (use H6-60 battery; 60Ah Minimum due to higher parasitic draws on Ferraris)"

The Interstate Group 48 H6 battery weighs 45.3lbs according to my scale.
The claimed weight of the H6-60 60Ah Antigravity battery is 18.15lbs, so a weight savings of 27.15 lbs.

Sale price with shipping is around $864 with shipping (on sale) that is around $32 per pound of weight savings. :)

I bought the 40 as my car is on a maintainer most of the time anyway. It’s a casual use 2,000 mile per year driver so she’s not left off a charger much.
