Any tips for how to remove dovel when timing Mondial T

Hello,

I am in the process of doing a major on my Mondal T, on of the cams are a bit of from the assembly marks and I am trying to move the dovel so I can adjust the cam to the assembly mark (and the degreeing the cams etc). I have so far failed to remove the dovel, any good tips on tools or procedure to get the pesky little bugger out? Funny thing was that I adjusted another cam and that dovel could easily be picked out with a vice grip,,,

Sometimes spraying it with penetration oil. Then gently rock the pulley will give you clearance .

 

After applying the penetrating oil, heat the pulley with a heat gun. Several cycles might be necessary to free the pin.

Remove the cam..knock the pin out from behind.

 

Remove the cam pulley, knock it out from behind, get a set of Testarossa dowel pins. They have threaded holes in the middle and you can insert a bolt, a tool, to pull it out when you are doing cam timing.

The look of the pulley means it has not been service in a while. Clean it up, run a 6mm drill bit (it's metric) into the holes to clean those up so they don't stick. Buy a small flat cutter (that cuts 90 degrees to the plan of the handles), grind the tips down to fit behind the edge of the dowel pins and use that as your pin puller tool.

@fatbillybob claims he has a method that knocks these pins loose everytime.

 

Knock out from behind, be advised it will launch. Also you can almost always use these . Hill engineering makes new ones to replace them with.
