How long are cars held at the port in NJ? Mine has been there for over 3 weeks. Not yet priced.
It depends. Ferrari is able to manage earnings and number of cars sold each quarter based on when they release cars from NJ as well as all the global centers like NJ around the world. A car is not sold for financial reporting purposes until it leaves NJ and invoiced to the dealer. Until that time happens, the cars are not sold and reported for financial reporting purposes. Once Ferrari became a public company they really care about how many cars they sell each quarter because that number is watched very closely by Wall Street. If they are "short" on the number of sold cars coming up to the end of a quarter, to make the numbers they may decide to fly cars in versus put them on a boat. Due to such a backlog in production the past several years and for the forceable future, there is no reason to "fly" cars in to make the quarter unit sales number. Now they can just move cars from centers like NJ if they are coming up "short" or if they have already made the unit numbers for the quarter, they will hold them in centers like NJ. When you only have approximately 13 to 14,000 units to move a year you can see how you can manage sales in a situation where they do not own the dealers. My general comment is be patient, your car will arrive it just may be a quarter or two later than you expected.
Interesting comment here about releasing cars strategically. There is clearly variability. Mine was 1.5 weeks, assuming I was notified of the port arrival promptly, which I think I was.
My car was reported arrived on May 1st. Seems a strange candidate for managing revenue early in the quarter.
If the car is a 296, maybe it's being held because of the stop order and they need to replace the fuel connecting pipe before it's delivered and they are waiting on a part? Just a thought.
