Horner to Ferrari??? What could have been.

They need Newey.

 

I think they would have been better off instead to offer Adrian Newey even MORE money, whatever he wanted. In the long run it would have been a good investment.

 

Newey is the most valuable man in F1, and has been for over 30 years

 

IMO a bit of a bluff simply to get a few more million salary from RB.

I don't doubt that Horner got an offer, however. But he seems pretty happy with his UK life. Huge house, kids sorted, money isn't an issue for him anymore really. He's now virtually stress free at Red Bull. I don't see the point in him moving.

I will put it simply: only a nutter would leave a top team in UK to go to Ferrari.

 

I doubt it....even top management at Ferrari will eventually screw this up. Their ethos is no one is bigger than Ferrari.

assuming no championship for Ferrari by 2028, expect a Max + techies (unsure if Newey would still stay around that long, I believe 2026 will be his last one and then wind down) in the biggest deal in F1 history.

It would go quite badly if the top brass tried to control horner. He has enough money to retire and then some... Like him or not, he's handling the politics and media of F1 very well. Vasseur right now is just another mouth piece as far as I'm concerned, saying the same things as Binotto etc.

Ferrari Brass wouldn't do so well trying to control Horner. That would be very costly indeed even just to the share prices alone with a few short interviews highlighting all the massive problems that are going on at Ferrari.

So if Ferrari Brass let him be and let Horner do the Todt thing, it would go quite well I suspect.

 

Well...don't know what to think of it; only that I think that is about time that Marko retires...I'm really tired of him. He is 80 or more, time to get out.

It could be an improvement but we don´t know what Horner could do without Red Bull paying for Newey and co. and the big political power that give two teams and lots of sponsorship in other championships. I don´t think one man alone can make a big difference. Look at all those ex-Red Bull that flopped at McLaren or Paddy Lowe at Williams.

 

Horner would never repeat at Ferrari the success he has at Red Bull, IMO.
The circumstances are different, so are the organisations.

 

It would be interesting to know what the offer included. Beyond whatever the money was Horner had to already understand how the Ferrari internal politics are. I would suspect that he had strong clauses that would have guaranteed autonomy. But, this may be exactly the items that Marko was able to argue against - no matter the written word Ferrari would do what Ferrari does. Just remind Horner of what happened with Todt, Brawn and Bryne. A string of convincing championships yet still pushed out because LdM had a "new plan".

 

Has everyone forgotten how the Italian media & judicial system crucified Newey after the Senna tragedy, the guy was cut loose by Williams and had to defend himself.....I would be surprised if he would even contemplate a holiday to Italy let alone a move there!!

As for Horner to SF..........bargaining chip for a raise.

 

Yes, very true, there is that to consider too.
They are quick to claim their pound of flesh when something goes wrong.
Chapman had the same problem in 1961 and 70 after von Trips and Rindt"s deaths.
