I see that Sotheby's has released the post restoration photos of my old friend 12467; and they have done a terrific return to the '71 Le Mans configuration. The car looks amazing in the raft of photos for their June 9, auction; right down to the last decal!
Yup, it is a bit sad for me as we had bought a very tired, cobbled up car and spent considerable time (and resources!) bringing it up to the then ('78/'79) IMSA specs. Much of that has been undone: the 9"/11" wheels are gone; along with the flares; the dryloc fuel fill has gone back to the flip cover; the fender 'strakes' also, along with the pantograph; much of the interior work has been put back. There is no real data on the motor; still P6's?, 42mm exhaust?, oversize jetting? All brought it to close to 450hp and made it handle the weight much better.
A plus has been that a key gap in its post new build history has been answered; along with what may be the actual participants in its conversion; presumably by factory associated people..
Time marches on and it will be interesting to see how well it does at auction in this configuration.
[And yes, that is not a misspelling; the homologation papers called it a Daitona.]

They must have run out of time. These 'restored' photos have just been added to their site?!

Daitona spelling because there is no y in the Italian language? could that be why the official name was not called Daytona(after the race track)?

I wonder if the barchette.cc claim of another, German registered 12467 currently also having a Classiche certification in progress has any validity.

Too bad that today's resources were not available back in the day. I spent some time then trying to sort out the s/n story.
Plus, were were convinced we had a 1" shorter frame; at the frront...??

Wheel base or front sub-structure above & ahead of the actual chassis ?
If latter, it shouldn’t be a surprise as there seems to be at least three different configurations originally used throughout the production just on non-plexi cars.
There appears to be various structural construction changes in the rear also.

No change in wheelbase; just the front substructure.
Measured against a series 2 comp car.

Would make sense to me, especially if substructures are same or similar to production road cars.
What was the construction timeline between Series 1 & 2 ?

The first five were done in '70/'71; the second five in '72 and the last five in '73.
The "factory list" has three more cars with factory involvement; including 12467.

    Thanks.
While I'm not a chassis number anorak, most of these datelines seem to align with my expectations on front substructure differences.
I've also been under the impression there were only 15 factory built comp. cars, but based on this your list, perhaps that's not the case.

    No.
No type errors. Dates are correct.

AGAIN: 15 cars (3 groups at 5 cars each) are official factory built Comp Daytonas.
Plus 3 cars that were converted individually and do NOT belong to those 15 official factory cars but have been accepted by the factory as legitimate and eligible for the challenge series.
    Those 3 cars are: 12467, 13855 and 14141.

    3 plus 15 official ones = 18 in total.

12467 was born as standard road car, completed 28 April 1969, and converted into comp in April 1971.
13855 was born as standard road car, completed 9 October 1970, and converted into comp in April 1972.
14141 was born as standard road car, completed 24 February 1971, and converted into comp in March 1972.

Now that makes more sense on those construction dates/years.
    Thanks.
