I know that for the Mondial-T-Models the engine have to get out during a service to replace the timing belt. How much does a service like this cost more than in the Non-T-models? How often does the timing belt has to be replaced km or duration? I placed the question in the german section aswell, but no answer there yet.
It’s all depends on how hard you driver your car. Usually it’s every 3-5 years for the major service. That also depends on where you go to service it could be between 5k- 10k depending also on how much work needs to be done and if there are any other problems that arise. It does get costly. For example a testarossa major service can cost up to 20k. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I own a 3.2 after having considered the t as well. There is no question that many (pretty much all) key services can be done on the 3.2 cab (it has an access panel behind the rear seat unlike the hardtop) with the engine in. For someone who will do their own work, the 3.2 is the model to have. The belts on the 3.2 are typically done every 5 years, along with the tensioner bearings. Often water pumps are done at that time as well. There are many items on the 3.2 and T's that would be expected to need replacing due to age - coolant, fuel and brake hoses come to mind. Fuel distributor rebuilds would also be likely required for many cars, along with the full dist cap, rotor, wires and perhaps the coils too. New tires are often necessary, as they may not be worn but could be long past their manufacture date and be not so safe to drive on. In short, 30 plus year old cars that have not been driven and maintained regularly as seasonal daily drivers like mine is will likely need aspects of a restoration. The t has more maintenance costs routinely, but as noted if you wanted to freshen up an old Mondial for safety and reliability, either car might need a very thorough servicing. The one time costs to do that on either model, including an engine out service for the 3.2 to eg. Have an easier time of checking valve clearances and resealing the cam covers, would be similar. So at this point I woud buy whichever car appears in best condition, and whichever one you like the drive, seats, steering and style, etc best.
If you are driving less than 10.000 km a year a timing belt engine out service every 5 years is ok in my opinion. My last service at stradale NL was 5.400,- EUR without tax.
