Your transaxle is one generation newer than the 550 transaxle, with triple synchros on the lower gears and parts shared with the Enzo, 612, and 599. Linkages on OEM 550s and 575Ms are pretty much the same, but the guts are quite different.

Rear shelf was made at Wil's shop. He had just purchased an industrial sewing machine. He did a great job.
the car was just delivered yesterday so have not had anytime to enjoy it.

Happy Father’s Day to all you dads!

Sharing an update on my experience with the converted car.

Last week I took the 575 to a Cal’s Angels event at Autobahn in Joliet IL. The event was not only a fundraiser, but it was also an opportunity to take some kids that have or are having a battle with cancer around the track in a fun car. The kids the rode with me all enjoyed helping me change gears :).

An impromptu spirited rally developed on the way home from the track and the 575 performed very well!

Prior to the events, I had noticed a resonance developing in the shift linkage. It’s not really noticeable with the windows down, but with windows up it becomes noticeable….mainly in 2nd, 4th, and 6th gear.

My friends 550 is currently out of commission with a coolant leak so I haven’t been able to compare the driving experience with another car just yet.

EAG is working to help diagnose the resonance…sending a 20 point inspection list…

My plan was to have the car in the shop last week, but I slid a different car into the shop’s schedule with a more immediate need. Without inspecting the linkage, the current thesis is that we might try to add some dampening weights at points along the linkage to tune the resonance. That idea is courtesy of James at Apex Motor Sports near me. He is the owner of the shop and a brilliant technician.

    Congratulations and Happy Father’s Day!

Is the resonance coming from a vibration?

Can you hear it on a video?

Looking forward to seeing how you sort this out.

Yes, with the windows down the resonance/vibration can be made out. I’ll post the video sent to EAG to YouTube and add it here as well.

2nd, 4th and 6th is when the shift bar is pulled forward, so the connector block is closest to the torque tube in this position. Given it’s happening in these specific gears, my hunch is that there is slight contact between the connector block and the torque tube, rather than just a harmonic.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying rowing the gears, and letting some kids get in on the action too. [emoji106][emoji106]

Thanks Robin…reviewing my video, it seems the resonance is also there in the odd gears. EAG believes it could be a brass bushing at the base of the shift tower.

6th gear also has a “whine” at low RPM with throttle engaged. Translating my voiceover in the video below,” on “ = on the throttle “off” = off the throttle.

Interested in hearing some feedback from the guys whose cars were converted by Will’s shop? Anything comparable to what I am experiencing (re: resonance / vibration through the shift linkage)?

I actually did have a little of that vibrating buzzing in 4th (and only 4th) under load (low to mid rpm) when I first got my car back. Haven't noticed or experienced it since.

My oem 575 had slight buzzing/vibration in the gate, mostly in 3d. After new motor and gearbox mounts it is mostly gone, but u can still feel vibration in the gearstick but no noise.

    Thanks Dan,

Sometimes when people say they hear noises it can be very hard to translate on a video.

    This is very clear.

Did this develop or was it there from Day 1 when you picked it up?

Also, please remind me….. did you have the shift rods installed or the cables?

So I did opt for the rods as the cable system was still being developed for the 575.

Re: Day 1… I would assume yes. I took delivery same day that I was heading out of town for my sons baseball tournament and didn’t get to drive it much. Even when I returned, I was more concerned about hearing the exhaust note… with the windows open… I can’t really hear the resonance so I likely missed it.

Joe continues to make better decisions than me:) lol

    Sorry for late reply here.
In the limited time I have had with the car since being returned from Wil there is no resonance or vibration

I just don’t understand how the rod inside the turret can vibrate. It slides and rotates inside a pair of either brass bushings (as found in older cars), or linear ball bearings. It’s such a tight fit though… it doesn’t have anywhere to rattle. I’ve made a bunch of these now, so I’ve taken apart and built up shift turrets more times than I can possibly remember.

If it’s done right, then there isn’t really any play anywhere. It’s one of those things that seems easier than it really is to make, as you have a a bunch of mechanical “fits” that need to be just right for the whole thing to feel correct.
