About Norris penalty,,, how much faster is it to leave a gap on track vs just driving into the pit and waiting! Either way they don’t touch his car til Piastri is out of the way. Is the goal to avoid stopping and over heating?

the penalty was for backing up the rest of the field.

seems like an inconsistently enforced penalty. hard to believe in F1, I know :p

It wasn't worry a penalty when bottas did it in 2021 jeddah and that cost significant timr to those behind. Why now?

And why no penalty for norris and Hamilton for what is always a slam dunk unsafe release?!

Sooooo..... this would be proof that "F1 is rigged" as appears as a trend every race on twitter.

Somehow, Max has "mechanical issues" or "grid penalties" until the F1 race in Vegas is the race that could give him the World Championship -- the Vegas race being owned and run by Liberty Media.

    Tinfoil hat anyone?

You mean they accidentally stumbled onto points :) Although if there would have been a SF, they may have been fighting for 3rd.

wait I thought y'all were bitching about too many penalties in qualli, now there wasn't enough in the race? ;)
Fernando did his best to sell it as a very near miss, which the front camera angle did rather look like. But nando's in car camera showed it wasn't nearly as close as he tried to make it seem with his needless sawing of the wheel. Like a soccer player writhing on the ground in faux agony after being barely touched :)

What's clear is that Mercedes pit crew needs to step up it's game!

BTW I'm curious what happened directly before Nando overtook Lewis. He was a solid second behind, the announcers had just said "he's playing the long game... thinking ahead 20 or 30 laps" then all of a sudden he was streaking past with DRS. Did Lewis mess up his exit to the straight?

He botched the chicane then stupidly tried to make up for lost time by powersliding into the wall.
Slipping so far in the points race he's in serious danger of losing to both Ferrari drivers.

That both Alonso and Lewis are close to Perez is pretty amazing.

Not Me...I thought sainz got away very lightly, and several others that needed punishment, didn't.

What this does is next week when there's an unsafe release and there is a penalty, people will moan again it's not consistent...

Not sure what happened, I did see alonso was on a mega lap that one. Maybe he was using his battery a lot more that lap?

It feels to me that this strategy was accidentally the right one.

Mostly because I'm so used to it back firing immensely and on paper it didn't make any sense. Neither did it make sense for the commentators!

    No way were those unsafe.

It seems odd, that under a safety car there is no overtaking on track, but in the pits racing is still allowed. (Maybe because the pit area is so much safer than the racetrack?)

Not sure why there was no black and orange for Ocon towards the end either. If that rear wing had fallen off there would have been hell to pay.

This is how bad the season is lol. Norris got a penalty yesterday but importantly he was celebrating his first real over-take of the year. We have had how many GP
    s???

--The time penalty was added to his race time at the finish and dropped Norris from ninth to 13th, voiding his efforts to score points after a tense midfield scrap with Alpine's Esteban Ocon and Alfa Romeo's Valtteri Bottas.

Despite the result Norris said Canada was his best race so far in 2023: "It was my best races of the year I would say. One of my first overtakes of the year today, it was a good race.--
